Due to the warm welcome, i decided to start a thread, where i´ll show the building process of my new layout.

Its a Erie Lackwanna inspired freelance layout, which i´m building in my garage.

    So here we go.

The harbor with a reverse loop.

Carfloat with a small yard to serve it

Next yard, not yet sure, if it will be a mining area

    20230521_201255.JPG

Background scene will be a bridge an a wye. At one side there will be a moveable fiddle yard, the last reamining segment of my old layout.

I´m planning to lay the track in the next weeks, doing the electrical wireing to make train movement possible. The turnouts will be handthrown at first and get electrical switches later on.

Nice layout! I like the false fronts along the back, and the rail/harbor mix!

How far of a reach is it from the aisle back to the tracks and switches behind the harbor in the first pic? Will that be a problem manually throwing the switches, or retrieving/rerailing derailments? Derailments seem to seek out inaccessible trackage.

Its easy accessable from the back. I will show it next time, if you are interested. The switches will be thrown electrical sometime in the future.

As long as you've got it covered, I'm good with that.

It can be straight and level with no joints; checked fifty times to be in gauge and Murphy's Law still will require that derailments occur there regullarly.

Those false fronts certainly add depth and help to enlarge the scene. (y)

Dont be afraid of the blue "Water". Painted it blue to help my imagination. The scenic works quite well, i think.

The missing track parts are ordered. I hope to finish track laying soon. The main yard following the car float will be expanded. Stay tuned, more to come.

You have a nice start there. Keep the pictures coming and ask all the questions that come to mind. Some one on here may have the answer to help make the layout more fun!

Looks great. If that is supposed to be a waterfront terminal on the Hudson River in NJ (based on either the old Erie terminal in Jersey City or the Lackawanna terminal in Hoboken), you could add a PATH station building, or some signs implying a PATH station is nearby.

Just a snapshot I took on 01/25/1981 at the former DL&W terminal at Hoboken. These tracks collected some interesting rolling stock. Empire State Building to left.
