I've been meaning to post this for a couple days, but a UP employee pulled this from the computer a few days ago and posted it on loconotes. It came up, because SP 199 was just recently repainted and is now UP 6147. It also skips SP 177
In San Antonio at Sunset Deopot. I took this back in 2000 while we had a station stop on Amtrak Sunset Limited.
Went to get my taxes doen today and found the UP switching an oil refinery. This is what I saw! View attachment 51763 View attachment 51764
You may not notice it, but there is an ex-SP AC4400CW in this photo I have from 2003 Me in 2009 with a SP Geep Not quite a loco, but still a cool SP piece I saw in 2010
Are either the Geep, or the ex-observation car still surviving? Before it was m-o-w, was it ever used as a business car?
You know what, I do not. I should look into this car because I always have been curious about this unique car. Let's see what I find. Edit: Ok, so the only thing is say on Jerry LaBoda's passenger car site says that this car was a former Heavyweight Barber Shop-Lounge Observation.
The Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad has seveeral former Espee SD-9's. I think all have been repainted into POTB black and white. There is also a GP-9 in a black and white Jersey Cow paint scheme but I think it's not a former Espee Geep
I believe all but the gp-9 were scrapped in place both the former BN and former SP units. There was one unit in Kodachrome a few years back. Don't know if it was painted before scrapping.
Former SP GP9 #3859 below is now Albany & Eastern #1750 & painted Orange, Silver & black. I'm sure you guy's already know this but she was better in SP livery even as shown below.
