Wow, did I open up a can of worms! Some backstory here Just joining today for some insight and to connect with enthusiasts. Last time I touched my HO scale stuff was 1986..87 or so, had a 10x6 setup in the basement of the house I grew up in. Nothing spectacular, just a wooden top with a lot of track nailed to it. I moved out of the house, then it was long forgotten. Little did I know my ma packed it all up when she eventually moved out, sat in boxes for 30+ years until 3 weeks ago.... When I re-discovered it.... what's in these boxes? To my surprise, all my old stuff. I have a 12 yr old boy who has taken an interest in the model trains after I connected a simple oval on the floor with the atlas HO track. We ran the only engine that sputtered around (I have 4 of them) using an old-school Tyco powerpack. Well, all that track is copper and tarnished badly, needed a good polish. All 4 engines needed a thorough cleaning and oiling. Now all of it works but will be upgrading a few things (after weeks of binging on YouTube videos, re-learning, etc). We're now designing a layout in his bedroom with a table I built. So you'll probably be seeing a few posts here and there from me. Cheers
Welcome aboard, asw2023. Sounds like a fine discovery you made, and you and your son can expand it and enjoy it.
Hi asw2023, welcome aboard. Glad that you found us. Suggest you continue posting on the HO Scale sub-forum in the Model Railroading Forums below. There you'll find enthusiastic helpers with lots of experience. We love it if you post photos as you progress. Don't be embarrassed about posting anything. Everyone of us started from scratch, some of us before TrainBoard, or Google, or the Internet. Some even before there were computers.
Welcome! I'm just a couple freeways/Metro lines from you (Hollywood area). I'm sure you've shopped at The Original Whistle Stop before. I'm an N scaler who converted from HO back in 2006 and this forum has been very friendly and extremely helpful in my transition so you'll learn lots from the people here.
The hobby that is rediscovered years later for a lot of us You and your kids enjoy the time together. And welcome!
Welcome to TrainBoard! Excellent report! 1987! Note: I am dispatching archeologists to your location.
