Welcome back modelers. I hope you had a great weekend and got a lot accomplished. Let's see how we did.

Saturday: The weather in NH took a turn from sunny and 91 to cloudy and 50. I slept in as I had a late night with Ray Arnot on his podcast, Around the Layout. Ray was giving a way an Athearn freight car we donated so I was on board as a supporting role. The show was only 25 - 30 minutes but we talked a lot after the show was over. It was mainly two New England Railroaders talking about New England rails and was a lot of fun. Once coffee had done it's magic, I got started on mowing my dad's property. My dad also had a friend show up to help. Between the two of us it took us over three hours. I didn't get done until just before dusk. I cooked up two burgers on the grill and we had a late dinner.

Sunday: I slept in again but not as late. I decided dad could use some time out of the house so we discussed going to the large gun shop a few towns over then stop by and pick up a few groceries for the week on the return home. We both got ready when dad saw something with his recent surgery that caused some concern. We played it safe and called the visiting nurse and she determined he should go to the hospital. Long story short we spent the rest of the day in the hospital and fortunately there was nothing wrong but always better to be safe than sorry when health is question. Another late dinner once coming home and poof, the weekend was over.

So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know. We'll come back on Friday, the 9th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe and as always...

Greetings all. Spent time in the work shop doing a few things yesterday. As expected, the control panel faces all showed up late Saturday afternoon, via UPS. Now I have to laminate them to MDF or thin plywood and get them wired. Looking forward to getting this started.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead.

    Hey All,

Friday or Saturday: Won a freight car from Jim and Ray! LoL! Thanks @Jim Wiggin

Saturday: Made a trip to the hobby shop for some wallet-based modeling. While I am waiting to complete some Athearn Genesis GP-15 repaints for the Wichita & Northwestern sectional layout, I grabbed some ~1980s power to move some cars around. Since the layout represents Larned KS, and interchanges with the Santa Fe, I picked up this excellent Athearn RTR SD40-2 and did some basic programming for it (even comes with sound/Tsunami 2):

    IMG_2705-SD40-CB-sm (2).jpg

I also worked on some additional cars for the W&NW fantasy/alternate history scheme. I got several cars primed and hopefully next weekend will get them painted. Trying a couple of different paint schemes on these...stand by for more...

    Have a great week All,

Good morning from cloudy and cool Northeast Ohio!

The weekend went as planned, Friday I painted a Proto 2000 Double Door Boxcar and started decaling a 50' Branchline boxcar with PC decals.

Saturday, we had the dress rehearsal for the concert on Sunday and I also started decaling the Proto 2000 Boxcar.

Sunday, Had the concert which went quite well and we went to dinner afterwards with my wife's sisters and one of the other singers, then off to home where I managed to finish most of the side decals on the two cars, will finish the sides and the ends during the week.

Weekend was a bit different than planned or should I say almost nothing planned was done. Our outing that would have allowed me to get to the not so LHS was postponed and replaced with other activities that filled most of the day. My knee was killing me Sunday so no trip down the stairs to the workbench. Spent the day reading the latest issue of MRN and TRP along with posting a few pictures. That's about it.

Hope you all have a great week!

I had what I will call a semi-productive. Saturday, we made returns to Amazon via Kohl’s and to Walmart. We stopped at one of our favorite places, Wolff’s Apple House. It is a combination nursery, produce store, and fresh grocery store. My wife picked up a couple of hanging plants and I grabbed some a few things from the grocery section. We then stopped at the regular grocery store, where I promptly forgot to get half of the things we needed. We watched for updates on the Delaware County Pride Parade in which my son was the chief organizer. He had expected about 300 to 500 people. They got over a thousand. The businesses in Media were ecstatic. The after-parade events were packed, and several were extended past their original quitting times. Several of the very happy business owners told my son that had not had anything like this since before the pandemic.

Sunday was spent outside. I looked over where we want to hang the plants that were purchased on Saturday and determined it was not going to be easy. I cannot just hang them off the pergola as we had hoped. Looks like I am going to have to get creative. My wife harvested some herbs while I removed what was left of the tulips. I also did some weeding. We had to make another grocery store run to get those things I forgot on Saturday. Somehow, I still managed to forget a few things which I will try to get on my home from work today.

Modeling was not as productive. I did clean off the workbench some. I finished the NYO&W FTB unit. I was going to run a train with my BLI Lehigh & Hudson River Light Mikado with a bunch of express reefers, but I found several that still had plastic wheels and several with coupler issues. Thusly I found myself checking and tuning the express reefers up. I did six of them before I got pulled away to do a few other things.

    Good morning everyone,

Well, that $5 static grass applicator turned out to worth about what I paid for it. It's a dud, but I do believe there is a chance that I can make it work. Lots of people have made their own from those bug zappers so I might be able to do that and already have the parts for it. A future project.

Better results on the layout in the area of the scrap yard. Got all the fences finished and installed, and am working on building out the scene. And I got a start on the GHO crane. At least got the boom done which I suspect might be the hardest part.

Yard work this weekend included a little bit of tree pruning. This afternoon the club member who has been working on the corner will deliver it and another member will join us to put a couple of final touches on it then it will be ready to go. Just a little over a week now to the NSE convention.

    Have a great week everyone.

So glad the surgery concern was not a problem. It "poofed" here too. Fine looking utility trucks. Put 'em to work! ;) Control panels! (Sitting on an icy river.) "Wallet based modeling." And here I am trying to do "brain-based modeling." Ohio weather never disappoints... :cautious: TRP = trains ripping past? :p Gotta' tune the freight cars. (y) Scrap yard and crane boom look first rate. Z- scale stuff looks fine too. :) Around here not much got done. All drive and side rods are installed. I think I will build steam and valve chests next. It looks like fishing is beginning to interfere with things. :sneaky: All have a safe, fun week. :D

I braved my first epoxy pour this weekend, and it turned out very nice! I mixed a little blue and yellow into it as I stirred, then poured and added some fine turf for pond scum to some spots. Poured the river and the pond, and I plan to make the waterfall out of some woodland scenics water products a little later.

    Here's a video of the pour! https://youtube.com/shorts/RCl72guqwzM?feature=share

    and here's the result:

I also repainted a Western Maryland Atlas GP38 into CN Rail colours to match the rest of my fleet. I think it's turning out pretty good, and I matched the CN colour well with some red, orange, and yellow paint mixed in the airbrush. I ordered some CN decals off eBay to finish it up.

Weekend went about as planned. Maybe a little slower than hoped for.

Friday: Tried to finish stripping the paint from the MRC/MP steam cab roof. Made progress, but still more to do. Toured an open house in the afternoon and discussed it over enchiladas and margaritas.

Saturday: Went suit shopping with our son in the morning. Learned enough to make some decisions. In the afternoon we were off to a graduation party. Back home for more scrubbing on the cab roof.

Sunday: Spent more time discussing the house we looked at. Decided it was not the one. Spent some energy planning "The Road to Reno." Finally got the cab roof paint removed. Cleaned up the rest of the parts and prepared them for primer. By that time, it was too late to consider painting.

Monday: Bonus weekend time for retired people! Finally put some primer on the loco parts. I am very pleased with the result. First time using a new airbrush and Vallejo acrylic primer. My skills need to improve. The real test will be when I add the next coat. That will have to wait until we return from the N Scale Convention.

Also got a suit on order for my son. Now it's my turn!

    Stay safe,

Long shifts at work, so free time energy levels have been low. I decided on a name for my (HOn30) logging railroad. Looks like I'll just be applying alphabet lettering, (slow process), but I can't justify the money for custom decals, to do only about ten cars. The scanner drew me in, so did more of that task. Am hoping to head back to the workbench later today.

I went to the Montreal Model Train Exposition in Dorval, on the West Island of Montreal.

I picked up a GP7 for painting (to CN 4801), an MRC Tech 4 power pack (replaced an old Tech II), and pack of three street lights.

It's unbelievable how expensive even used engines and rolling stock are. With prices of used diesel locos up to $300 , most are way past my comfort zone unless I really, really, really, really want it. I mean really. There are still some bargains under $100, fortunately.

But it was good to get out of the house and meet some people and shoot the breeze. That's half the fun of a train show!:)

Got my bridge abutments, piers, retaining walls and tunnel portals all glued in place on my N Scale road. Next up is scenery, which with my lack of confidence and general incompetence, will take quite some time.

I was able to build the frame and tops for the connecting portion from the helix to the yard body module. It's a funky shape with a curved back and front. Plus the tracks entering at an angle. I need to add backdrops and paint before mounting somewhat permanently.
