With the wet and dreary weather outside spent most of the weekend inside. My daughter took my wife and I out for Mothers' Day brunch on Saturday. We do not go anywhere near a restaurant on Mothers' Day. Afterwards did some house chores and got the Easter decoration bins put away. On Sunday I built one my wife's Mothers' Day gifts, a birdbath that she asked for.

I did have a good modeling weekend. I built an Athearn Blue Box RF&P wide vision caboose. I changed the couplers to Kadees on a Bachmann Tropicana reefer and weathered the reefer. I began assembling a couple Athearn Blue Box Tropicana reefers.

Thanks-I cheated and used Roommettes and Just Plug for the interior room walls. A mix of decorated Tomytec and Kato figures as well as undecorated model power figures (decorated with fine point sharpie). The furniture is a mix of 3D printed items from various vendors, mostly painted with Gundam markers. Gold Medal Models Venetian blinds with a coat of white spray paint.

One day, when my kids are grown up and moved out and I don’t have to keep it G rated- I may add another room with one of those Noch “bedroom” scenes. I like little Easter eggs on my layout. Just enough to get someone to do a double take and maybe get a chuckle.

Make that in a back room that needs a little effort to see. Could learn a little that way.

I really enjoy seeing everyone's progress here!
I had about an hour and a half free after work last night, so I added some more undergrowth, deadfall and some riprap under the arch bridge in the Cornwall Bridge, CT portion of my layout. I did work on the forested portion toward the backdrop section of the scene. I still need to do some sparse static grass between the tracks and along the spur track for Becton Dickenson, which branches off to the right. All, in all, I did the undergrowth detail for a section about 6 feet in length on my N scale layout over the weekend. There are some photos posted above of earlier progress this weekend.

Some of the reason I come here also is to enjoy yours and others art work. It looks great.

I finally got tired of using the reading glasses I have. They never seem to allow me to focus as close as I'd like for doing fine detail work/kit assembly/etc.

So I ordered an Optivisor with 3 extra lenses of different magnifications. It should arrive next week. Then I'll be able to start building some of the many N scale kits I have piled up in the living room.

If I figure out how to post photos here (gotta find the correct Trainboard thread where I asked about posting photos), maybe in a couple of weeks I'll have several kits built and painted.

I have also found the little battery powered LED lighting unit that attaches to the Optivisor to be helpful.

I got about as much done as I usually do, not much. I've realized I'm only a quarter as fast as I think I am. Any estimate on how long it will take to make or do something needs to be multiplied by 4 to be close to accurate.

On the C30-7, I did make the windows but did not install them because I realized I hadn't put the white edges on the steps yet and should add a little weathering then more dull coat and then add the windows. So I got the step edges done on one side and the windows made so not too bad. At least I didn't need to clean any cooking mishaps off the ceiling.

    That's a REALLY good idea!

Does Optivisor make it, or do I have to order one from some other company? If you see this and reply, you can send me a private message. Thanks.

Whenever I see a post about the Optivisor, it brings back memories of this stupid movie...

I bought an Opti Visor as recommended here. But as usual buying on the internet. It got put away and replaced with a Carson. Which has just a head band and multiple lenses.
The Opti Visor was very uncomfortable and I couldn't keep my glasses on. Both had the necessary LED light.
Get one that satisfies your needs.

I've had several Optivisors in the past, and fortunately, they've all worked very well for me.

I found I would get a sore neck with the Optivisor until I realized I was craning my neck way back instead of flipping up the visor when looking for things just out of reach.
Just something to be aware of.

I find when I am not wearing my Optivisor and need to look as something close, that I instinctively reach up and try to flip it down. It also comes in handy when I am on all fours under the work bench looking for a small part that I dropped. It acts kind of like a curb feeler on a old Buick. It is bound to run into wall or bench legs before I bang my head on them.

Mine is stowed away as I need my glasses even with magnifiers. The one I use allows me to do that. That or I may have to use different magnification for each eye.
