I had seen that film a long time ago, though I just got a Criterion variant to see in good quality again [previous was just okayish one. Criterion does better restoration]. The film in question was though Lady from Shanghai, 1947. Only the starting scene has a single horse at night in the city.

    Three images, three stations.

    > A P-1 loco [ basically weakest of the electric locos found in India] standing at edge of the platform
    > A station being renovated
    > A passenger train running b/w the state capital and another big city 70+ kms away.[Image taken from an intermediate station]. Ironically , both cities were better connected pre Covid when more passenger/EMU trains used to run but since it's only a double electrified line and more express/freight movement has tacked on, Railways reduced the frequency of these passenger trains. It also didn't help that these trains are loss making. The end to end ticket price is INR 20 . When I first took a passenger ticket, I was surprised to find it so cheap. In contrast, a government bus ticket will cost you INR ~100 and one begins to see why these trains are a bargain even if their speeds have remain unchanged for decades. They accelerate good enough but platform constraints at end to end stations and overtakes mean the journey time easily takes 2+ hrs [equivalent to a bus].

That first one sure has a few thick coats of paint. Must have been in service for quite some time?

Yes, I guess it's an old loco. I did a cursory search and apparently the original design of P-1 locos was only done b/w 1980 and 1996. So I won't be surprised if it's quite old. I would still ask folks for furthur clarification at an Indian railfanning forum to pin the exact date/year.

They used to carry prestigious trains once, however, with more powerful locos now, they err, are used as backups or carry the odd slow moving passenger train.

Oh, so you are a passenger wanting to know which station has come? Then decipher this! Seems like the Station Board hasn't been replaced in ages.

On the plus side, if you like locos, there are FIVE in this one frame. There exist still a few stations where one can get dual gauges and technically images of two different gauge locos in one frame. I am not sure if any station is there in India that still serves or served all three gauges since Meter one is going extinct now almost.
