    Hi all,
Have a possible trip to NYC at the end of the month. Any suggestions on train related things in the city I should try and check out?

    1. Grand Central
    2. Penn Station
    3. Hudson Yards
    4. ?????

If you have any hobby shop suggestions, you can PM me so as not to run afoul of any rules :) TrainWorld is an advertiser here so I guess it's okay to mention they are on the list :D

Check out Grand Central Madison. I was there about 2 months ago after it just opened. Some stores may actually be open now. Have fun

Try the 11th Avenue and 33rd street area. That's where there is a yard serving Penn Station. I've never been there, but being familiar with Manhattan, and looking at Google Earth, you should see lots of action. That's near the entrance to Amtrak's Hudson River tunnel and the loop up to the Empire line that runs up the west side of Manhattan and the Hudson River to upstate New York. Good luck hunting.

Also, go to Park Avenue and 97th Street where the Grand Central tunnel exits into daylight. That's where all the MTA trains serving Hudson River commuter towns, eastern central New York commuter towns, and southwestern Connecticut commuter towns. Checkout MTA schedules for maximum train frequency.

If all if the navigation gets to be too much, it might be fun to relax and ride a commuter train on a route you fancy and railfan at a station for a while before you return. You'd have a bunch of choices.

I don't know, as I haven't seen any of these things. But I think I'd have to check out Sunnyside Yard and the big loop, even if it is in Queens. And I'd probably take a ride on the Lon Guyland.
