While growing up in Pennsauken, NJ the passenger train would run by our park/ball field a few times each in the am and pm. For the life of me I can’t remember the type of equipment. I don’t recall an engine and seem to think it was an rdc type. I was about 11 or so when they stopped this service and it’s only use for us was to be home after the 2nd train passed as that meant dinner time.
    Thanks.
Mods, if I’m in the wrong spot would you move it? Wasn’t sure where to post.

Passenger service ended on this line 4/25/1969. (Steam hauled passenger trains ended in 11/1957.)

Mid-1950s photos show doodlebugs in service, so that may be what you remember. After that, Baldwin road units worked the run with one or two P70 coaches in push-pull service, with the engineman pushing the cars and the Conductor working the air and horn from the coach. The PRR never owned RDCs, although the PRSL did. Hope this helps. (y)

I’ve read somewhere that they used RS11 for that but I have no memory of them. Too busy playing ball?
I do remember as a kid going to visit my grandpop while he was working as a guard for a company that was near the bottom of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Those are my only memories of steam.

PRSL at Haddonfield, NJ in April 1961. This line came out of Camden/Pennsauken. Don't know if it was the line that went to Pemberton.

The PRRs RS-11s were delivered in '56 and '57 and were freight units. Anything's possible, but they probably didn't appear in passenger service. I'm thinking that they weren't delivered with steam generators.

That line actually splits right near my house in Pennsauken. Going to the right is currently NJT to AC. To the left is the old Camden -Pemberton line. That switch is at Park Ave.
I have coffee almost every morning at the old Merchantville, NJ station.

I also have two uncles that worked at Collins Lumber which was served by a spur running behind the station.

I’ve been looking for pictures to help my memory along. Here’s one of an RS-12 in Moorestown, NJ.
