E-8, my wife says hi to you and yours, she was born and raised in Blaine, not far from you Progress report: Today I reamed all the bearing holes for the lifting linkage that raises the access hatches to the round house, and took a photo of it before lifting the plug to install the Diamond Scale turntable pit. Will start laying actual track into each stall from pit, tomorrow. There, I just knew all of you were waiting with tainted, boozy breath for my report. But after all, I GOT SOMETHING DONE ON MY LAYOUT! And what did you do constructive today? Ah HA! I'de like to see the DL&W Chris, I like that! ------------------ Watash [This message has been edited by watash (edited 07 October 2000).] [This message has been edited by watash (edited 07 October 2000).]
I'll be playing trains (n scale, a bit of H0, 0 gauge and a bit of gauge 3) whenever I get the time. The n scale "layout" is just one or both of two bare 2'x4' wood framed baseboards covered with Sundeala (which I did actually make myself for my son a few years ago but they never got used) which I get out from their vertical storage place against the wall in my daughter's bedroom (when I can get in there!) and lay flat on any spare surface (the bed, the kitchen table, the dining room table etc) for a couple of hours, fit the track together and lay it down loose, unpack whatever stock I fancy (usually 2 or 3 engines and about 20 freight cars - any more and the front of the train is up its own a**e!) and run the train until the table is required for laying for dinner or whatever! A beautiful scenic layout with plenty of yards and facilities would be wonderful but I actually get a lot of pleasure from just running trains in this very simple and basic environment - you can do a lot with your imagination. Ben
Well I expect to be working on some new rolling stock. Got a 6 pack of Tichy 55 ton coal hoppers and a proto 2000 tank car to assemble right now. Still need to finish my laserkit cabose (BTW Laserkits are GREAT!!!)....Mike ------------------ Its only Money !!
First I will have to find out how to install my new DCC system, then I can finish my tracklaying on the Rappannahock Terminal. I have also a backlog of locos to be painted in HO and G scale. To fill up the last gaps in my time I have to start, with my 2 friends, our new exhibition layout in G scale. No time left to be bored! I will be chasing trains and (being the crazy one I am) standing beside trackside taking picutures. To coin the phrase freezing my fanny off. Oh well, After that curl up in the sleeping bag and read my model railroad magazines planning my model railroad. I already know the era and place to model. Know I need to research everything else. Maybe next spring I can get something started. ------------------ Keep on railroad'n
Hi Ben, you are the only other person I have heard that still has emagination, everyone else wishes to be pure prototype. Poor lost souls! Ha. They miss so much in life, yet you and I have it all! Right? We can be the New York Central one day, and The Salad Bowl Express the next, now that's exciting! I would enjoy "seeing" your layouts through your eyes. Carry on! ------------------ Watash
Watash, you are now balancing on a thin line. I think there is somewhere a limit where we can still say it's an interesting hobby, even when you just run your trains on whatever surface and on the other side where it becomes a more lunatic, banal affair. I have seen people who were from the second group and I never understood (with my small human brain) whatever enjoyment they possibly could have from what they were doing with their trains. You are right, Paul. There are some who forget that model railroading should be FUN! ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery

ok please lets stick to what this forum is about. I don't believe a persons birth right has anything to do with this topic. Regards Paul ------------------ Paul Cassar-# Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
You are so right Colonel! I have finally mounted all the ties on the turntable girders. Next step is to center the turntable onto the center post and set alignment. Over the years, the only thing I could do was daydream about how to make this layout have a large roundhouse and still have room for some switching yard and main line track. My imagination let me see all the possibilities and pit falls. Then one day I put it all on the computer full scale, and was able to fit it all together. I have the roundhouse basics up and on the layout, 33 stalls. I am having fun! Colonel, we have a saying here in Texas, that applies to the one who wants to dictate how we must enjoy our hobby. It is this: "It is mind over matter, Sir, I don't mind, and you don't matter"! Have fun all you banal lunatics, I am it seems! ------------------ Watash
Watash, I very much enjoy your posts on all the forums in Trainboard and I thank you for your kind comments. All I would say (to echo what someone else said) is that it is supposed to be fun; it is a hobby, you do what you want to do, enjoy finding out about what other people do and if you are not interested in what they are doing you concentrate on something else! I just love all the liveries of the American railroads and I love running locos and trains from completely different roads and different time periods in whatever combination my fancy takes. Ben
Way to go, Ben. I'm sorry I was unable to support and encourage you more. I imagine I will have my layout runable soon, although not finished to everyone's satisfaction. I'm taking a few photos along, since I'm using some unusual methods that are working out quite well. Thanks Ben. Have FUN ------------------ Watash
