Tell us what sort of motive power your railroad uses and why.

The AOW uses diesel-electric power that isn't any older than second generation. It's a pretty even balance between EMD and GE but we have no Alcos.(Sorry, Alan!) Most of the locos are in BNSF colors or BNSF "retagged and numbered". The rest is either AOW or SP/UP. (Actually, we currently have no UP/SP Power, but are looking at getting some again.) We do have an A-B-B-A set of F-9's in BN Cascade Green and Black, but those are used for "Special Operations and Business Entertainment Runs" or "SOBER" Trains. Things like "Operation Life Saver" and attracting new Businesses to the railroad.

The Andersley Western is an all-Alco road, and has, so far - 1 RS1, 1 RS2, 1 RSC2, 1 RS11. More will be acquired, as availability and funds become available. As tonnages increase, we could do with some larger power, like C636's, C630's, etc.

Some ex-CN M420W's would be nice [IMG]

You guys love those Big Mac's, maybe you would like to check out railpower@sisna.com and see their new SD90MAC-H phase 1, and also their SD9043MAC, they look like they might pull two cars and a caboose too! They even have a GP60M+B lettered for BNSF! I still don't see where you put the coal though. [IMG]

Well that explains alot. You go some pretty old stuff there watash. The last time I saw a Revell F-unit, it was in a book printed in 1969, third addition, "The Book of Model Railroading". It was my MRR Bible for years but now it's a bit out of date. [IMG] Great book in it's time, but the most I can get out of it now is some sceanery tips, although I wouldn't use some of the stuff they used back then, chemicals are too harsh or the end result is too heavy. I don't want you to think I'm putting down the old days, but I'm sure glad we have moved on and have improved EVERYTHING IN ALL SCALES, that includes couplers my friend. As long as you install the KayDee/Micro-Trains/McHenery/Accumate couplers CORRECTLY, they can't be beat. But, that's just the opinion of a not-so-old-but-old-enough, dog. [IMG] We love your ideas, keepem' coming!

Currently my engine roster has mostly 1st generation power. These are S scale units made by American Models.

    1 FP7
    3 GP9's
    3 GP35's
    1 F3-repowered with AM chassis
    1 F7-rebuilt from F3 shell

    planned purchase's
    1 or 2 S12's
    1 SW1

There are units made by S Helper Service coming, they will be comperable to the HO Atlas and Kato being produced in China. I plan on a set of F3's.

Your right Brent, that Revel Deexul is so old its got wrinkles! On another thread I told about trying to use pulse power and back into a couple with all the couplers you mentioned, but unless The car I wanted to pick up happened to be sitting over a magnet with coupler already opened, I could not make the knuckle open inorder to couple. So I'll stay with my faithful Mantua's. The new scenery stuff, I agree. Got some great stuff now days. Still very delicate, though. That's why I think the old Banner Company cast-iron trees are better, they are still standing when you climb back down off the table. [IMG]

Well, the ramp is for uncoupling, not coupling. Sounds to me you didn't put the centering springs in the draft gear box or they were in there wrong. Like I said, I think you didn't have them installed correctly. If you did, you wouldn't have ANY of the problems you did. The coupler would "center-up" on the ramp and as soon as you moved off, "click", they would lock. But you stay with those hook-n-loops if that's what works for you.

You are correct Brent, They are for uncoupling ONLY. I had the couplers professionally mounted, and tested at a club, approved by several of that club's "experts". OK? Then, I asked them to run my engine back and couple onto my flat car and show me how it is supposed to work. The flat car with 'their' coupler, and the engine with 'their' coupler. I took my finger and pushed the flat about three inches away from the magnet in their track. The club "expert" backed my engine into the flat, no couple and the flat coasted about 12" down the track! Lots of hoots from the other "experts" as is always the case at clubs, and eventually all of them had a go at it. None coupled on unless the flat was on a magnet! None! Then I reached into my tool box and started adding weight onto the flat car, in answer from the "experts" that my flat was not heavy enough. I laid a plumber's block of lead on the flat, they hit it at about 4 MPH but the flat still rolled away. I put the other block on beside the first; all the room there was. That was two one pound blocks. They tried again, off magnet, then I said it wont do it, they said it will! SO! I shoved the flat off the magnet, ran my engine down the track about ten feet, flipped it in reverse, and said stand back! I gave it full throttle, and crashed into the flat at full bore! The Couplers DID NOT OPEN! Sorry.
