I think dirt is the more prominent... "color"... on this car... I used the SCL boxcar in the left background as a reference. The color on the model looks very red!
As seen at the height of the per diem boxcar craze on 2/03/1979 at Knoxville TN, AN 5556 is only six months old. The 96 mile road leased 800 boxcars.
As seen today, SPPX 5150, built just last month. There were several of these great looking cars in the consist.
From Saginaw TX back in Jan. 2024 Coil Steel anyone? Looks a lot like an ex C&NW car And a couple of random tank cars
A few random freight cars from 2007 at Cartersville GA The wedge logo actually looks pretty good on these 2 bay covered hoppers That flat is bright yellow for sure but it's not the only thing flat. Not sure what's up with those tires. I've only seen these spine cars a few times over the years. They are really neat.
That's what the placards say. It was a bright day so couldn't tell if the cars were actually glowing or not.
From 06/13/1988 at North Walpole, VT, GMRC boxcar X506. At the time, the Green Mountain had a fearsome reputation amongst railfans, so my friend and I stood at their property line and shot with telephotos. I bought an N Scale car like this (Con Cor 1001-Y) sometime in the early 1970s, so I thought it was pretty cool to finally see the real thing. I still have the car and it still sees use.
