Hmmm. You may be on to something. There are certainly other so-called "holidays" of much less impact and history....
How often do they steam up both replica engines? Just as an aside, I saw a post with a private varnish car with the name "Promontory Point" on it. Every time someone posts that in a rr forum, the history police attack it and bring up Promontory Summit as the correct location. Interesting to see a car with the Point name, though such a place actually did exist.
I haven't been there for a number of years, but a good friend used to be the head ranger at Golden Spike, and they used to fire up both locos every day during the summer season. They had a 2 man crew in each loco that talked to the visitors, and every so often, they would back both locos to opposite ends of the track in front of the visitor center and do run-bys.
