Hi, Looking for thoughts on my plan. I have a 3x4m space. My layout will be modern era with a heritage yard for my 844 Excursion and 4449 Daylight trains. I have always wanted to model a loop, this will run up to the 'summit' where i will have a nice long bridge. These are the two things that are my must haves. I would like to add a small industry somewhere along the run, maybe in the corner after the summit and bridge section. The aisles will be tight in a few spots but as it will mainly be only me operating and maybe only a couple of friends I'm not too concerned about that. The grids are 50cm x 50cm but the rulers are inches.
The 20” between your heritage yard and the peninsula with the summit/bridge is very narrow. You will have many issues there. How steep is your grade? Another way, to get rid of the long loop, is to use only a small grade change (2 to 4 inches max), but then drop the fucsia of your bench work where you want the bridge and mountain, giving them depth (and you can still build the mountain peak up, above the tracks, as well)
I agree with the narrowness. I could move the end of the peninsula up a bit to give more room or straighten out the bridge section. I want model the loop, that was one of my big things, I love Williams and Tehachapi so that stays at this point in time. As you suggested I will be dropping the base away to give the impression of height once past the loop and around the peninsula. There will possibly be a scenic divider going down the peninsula
Move the loop to the right next to the wall and move the summit 'up' and that will give you more room for your isles.
