You got some really great photos there Rick. We have been there a number of times and the trip is well worth it. We go to Reno, NV a few times a year for the National Bowling Tournaments they have there and it's not too far out of the way to stop in Ely. We also head south to Virginia City to visit the Virginia & Truckee RR.

The Nevada Northern sure has their poop in a group and have really done a great job in preserving railroad history.

It wasn't even a planned visit! We knew Ely would be lunch/gas stop (that is a given, on 50), and knowing we had a bit of time, if we wanted, we looked during lunch at what was available to see in town. First up on the list was NNRY. I bet if there was a mining museum, my daughter would have asked for that, but she enjoyed the visit here. Especially the machine and blacksmith shop (and getting to climb into the cab). She is a theater scenic designer, so her photos of the visit are totally different, but wonderful if she ever needs to design props or sets for these types of spaces.

Too bad you didn't get to take a ride. We have done that a few times. Nothing like riding behind steam. The give you a great trip. Well worth spending the time.
