If so, I'll bet you're drooling now! Count 'em--SIX domes! The Sherman Hill Model RR Club's saturday UP steam excursion train is here in Cheyenne. Here's a preview:
As far as I know, they're running an E9B in the consist, behind the CHALLENGER! UP 3985 is pulling this one! The powers-that-be are hoping for 4 runbys.. I hope to get some GOOD pics, and a nice smoke show! Don't worry, I'll get as many shots as I can! Better yet, the car I'm 'assigned' is the baggage car..... Right up at the front!!!
Hemi... I envy you! I saw 3985 in Sacramento at the California State Railroad Museum several years ago. She's a sight to behold! John
I have a color guide to GN equipment at home, and in it are a few really odd paint jobs on a GN dome car... Big Sky Blue patterned paint, but with BN green! Good thing the merger went OK, otherwise they'd have been caught with their pants down!! 'Shouldn't Paint So Fast' sound familiar?? I think it was an early pre-merger scheme in early 1970.
Darn, I'm going to miss this one. If you haven't ridden in one of those domes, it is the ONLY way to go.
Thanks, guys... That'll fit right in with my era. I'm modelling the weeks just before the Zephyr ended operations. I have a couple WP books that show BN trains coming down the inside gateway with all kinds of merger power. John
Full trip report coming later this weekend...... Stay tuned! Train leaves at 9... Challenger comes out of the shops to stage train... I gotta get outta here!!! *runs*
Beautiful pics. Everything looks brand new, like it just came out of the box. It almost makes me wish I was a bigger UP fan.
The trip was INCREDIBLE! Even though UP screwed up, and parked 60 miles of coal trains on the rare mileage original planned route. So we went to Laramie and back. Not that the riders were disappointed, though. UP gave us track 3 on the trip to Laramie, and the dispatcher took very good care of us. Since the screwup was way high in the UP food chain, it at least wasn't our fault. Here's the Challenger basking the early morning sun at 7AM: There's not words to describe the SEVEN runby's UP hooked us up with! There's also not words to decsribe the incredible sounds and feel of a 40MPH smoke show pounding the rails at Perkins, WY, Dale Junct, WY, Hermosa, WY, and Sherman (Summit) WY. I have over an hour of video, dozens of pics and I want to post some pics tonite.. Stay tuned!
Note: I have reached my 10MB limit on railimages... So I need to clean house of the older low-quality stuff, before I can upload any more....If you saw someting in my albums you would like to archive, do so now, as I am cleaning house after 6PM MST.
Sounds like Steve and the rest of the UP steam crew went out of their way to make this a truly memorable trip. I can't imagine an hour of video from any excursions I have ridden. Like I said earlier, "darn" looks like I missed another good one.
Absolutely beautiful. Wish I could have seen them up close. What is a passenger train NUT? I don't have any UP E7A/B or E8A/B but I DO have N scale SP Daylight and Lark for Daylight PA1/PB1, ATSF/CB&Q with 12 budds and ATSF E8A/B, P42 A/A, Superliners, F59PHI A/A, and a heavyweight Daylight, E7A/B, E6A/B, F40P A/A and even a main st. trolley. Do I qualify?
