Fabulous! Highly detailed minimalist layout, exactly the way I like it (but can never build!) Very nice tutorials too.
Loving it Joseph! Thank you for sharing. Nice perspective picture backdrop, really brings out the depth. Just one thing that caught my eyes in your flickr album - the controller in the far right intrudes into the scene, and to me it looks a bit odd. Given how masterfully you have maintained the clean, uncluttered look, may be you want to bring that controller down below the baseboard level so that it does not obstruct the observer or the camera. It seems like you have mostly completed this project, but I would surely look forward to more. What are you planning next? Kaustav
Kaustav, thank you for taking the time to see more of the layout and your comments! Yes, the controller does intrude, its location is determined by the need to keep it up high from the curious 3 and 4 year old that both share an interest in "running" the trains. Which brings me to your question about my next step, which will be to go digital mounted under the layout, ideally with wireless throttles. I plan on lighting the buildings as they all have interiors, and I've already run wiring under the layout for that purpose. I want to finish up the layout with palms, bushes, and trees as per the prototype, and also finalize a back scene that incorporates the background photos and mini led lights for Street lamps, interiors, etc. I'm working on finishing the recycle plant, and a few more videos too. Definitely more to come, so thanks for your support!
Well I can check off another project as complete, er I mean semi completed, the recycle center. I used chopped up newspaper to make bales, and left over pieces for the rubbish on the ground. The structure was previously built from styrene. Enjoy! Thanks for reading!
Joseph, you wrote you remember waiving to the engineer as the train slowly moved down Chandler Blvd. I used to do the same when I lived at 1310 W. Chandler Blvd, (between Mariposa and Griffith) in Burbank. Where did you live at that time?
12224 Chandler Blvd. How I remembered that I don't know. I think the area is Valley Village now. I used to frequent a hobby shop called "the Roundhouse". It's closed now.
Would that be in N. Hollywood? I can't recall the western limit of Burbank. Old age, I guess. Also, your knack for detail is wonderful. Have you worked for Disney Studios in the past? I recall visiting the Lockheed Employee's model railroad layout, (many, many years ago) and the details they had placed on their pike was superb. They had many artists from Disney who were members.
Yup N. Hollywood, right around the corner from Shakey's Pizza. I've never worked for Disney but my dad worked in the industry and always told me about set builders and special FX. I'm a bit late though, I grew up in the digital/cgi era. Oh well, there's still YouTube lol.
