I'm building a shelf layout. I just finished the basic benchwork of 1x3"s and a top of 1" Pink Foam. I will be using Woodland Scenics Grades etc but for now while it's a simple flat 10' x 10' x 2' L shape should I lay down a base coat of some neutral earth tone, something to hide the pink ? Thanks, Dave
It wouldn't hurt to do this now. I usually do at this stage. You'll end up covering most of the color in other scenery. But should there be a thin spot, etc., this color will be much easier to work with than bare pink, plywood, etc. Boxcab E50
By all means, paint now. Not only dose it feel like a lot has been acomplished, it looks much better to the novices who view it. It's also easier to get everything that you may miss once scenery etc. is added later.
Ok the vote seems to paint now, but... will paint cause problems down the road with adding additional scenery or roadbed etc ? I've been warned by some that this may cause an issue. Thanks again. Dave
I like what you say here John. I agree completely. I have had several people over to view my layout which is still "in the pink". They just can't seem to get past all that foam. Plus as someone who frequently feels overwhelmed by the scenery task at hand, I have to say the paint helps me get motivated too. (and feel like I've accomplished something)
