Yep, I had to make a road trip today and was fortunate enough to catch a couple of units in a town called "Warsaw, N.C" which is almost half way between Raleigh, N.C. and Wilmington, N.C. I saw this C40-8: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/CSXT7597.jpg Chessie
Here is another shot of the unit with its running mate for the day, an SD50: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/CSXT7597a.jpg Warsaw, N.C. is a little town on the former ACL line from Wilmington to Rocky Mount, N.C. It had slowed in traffic in the 80's & early 90's, but apparently has enjoyed a resurgence in traffic along the line.(When I used to photograph this area in the early 90's, I was lucky to catch a pair of GP38-2's... certainly not 6 axle power!) The tracks that once went through the towns of Burgaw and Wallace have been abandoned and taken up, however signs along the right of way now indicate the R-O-W property belongs to the State of North Carolina. Anyway, (as usual) enjoy the pics! Chessie
I too, love those shots! My wife was watching when I was looking at the earlier ones, and said "wow! look at all the detail for modellers" She thought the big pics are great. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery

I hope everyone finds the pics useful. I have more to add from my "travels" today, but I only caught an Amtrak unit and a bunch of NS stuff Oh well, it is still railroading.... Chessie
Chessie you sound as bad as me, taking pics or getting looks at trains any possible time... The joys of being a train nut-

The joys of being a train nut-

Hey! I resemble that remark I used to be a bigger nut... I got into photography in around 1985. I thought it would be cool to photograph the "vanishing" paint schemes that went through town. ( NS and SDB/CSX ) I would regularly spend a Saturday armed with 2 35mm cameras, a scanner, and a bag of film chasing trains in the area. Plus, my job at the time took me throughout parts of the state and sometimes up and down the east coast. I amassed quite a collection of color prints (which I hope to scan and upload to my Trainweb site). For example, I have pictures of virtually EVERY GP30 that the Southern Railway rostered, as well as most GP35's, GP38's and 38-2's. I have some pics of the same units in multiple paint schemes (SCL/SBD/CSX). I really enjoyed it a lot. I was really active until around '93, which coincides with the birth of my first child. I pulled out some of my old pics the other night... I thought they were good, but it is hard to compare those 4x6 color prints to the huge digital pics I get now! (Plus I am spoiled by being able to upload the digitals to my computer and the web in seconds) Chessie
While i'm not sure i wouldn't be suprised if some of them units are working in BNSF paint now... Actually i forgot about all the rebuilt ex Southern GP39s with the new cabs, etc! So there's a chance i've seen units you were watching 15 years ago~

I will have to check my back issues of Diesel Era magazine. Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors!
