Hi all. Anyone have any pics of CSX switching local industries? Seems everyone wants to see hi-speed intermodal stuff these days, but I would like to see the opposite. Thanks.
Does CSX even switch industries nowadays? LOL!! I don't have any recent pictures, but it sure is an interesting topic. Harold ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Coming soon: The North Carolina Railfan Web Site http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/
CSX switches just south of me every day, usually at night though. I do have pictures of a local (but not a switching local, just one between two points) with an ex-CR GP38-2 on the point and about a dozen cars. ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society, NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W
I have two Pictures of CSX GP38-2 #2667 still in SEABOPARDPAINT!! I don't have a scanner though the local usually has about 5 covered hoppers to Uponor ETI, 3 centerbeams and 3 bulk heads to Trust Joist, and 2 Boxcars to Coastal Lumber. there has only been 3 covered hoppers going to ETI since they layed off 19 employees. TJM cot a new contract for more parallam wood and talks are that AMOCO would be interested in putting in an oil refinery be side TJM.(yea Right, ) ------------------ TrainBoard.com MEMBER#204 THE WEB PAGE IS NOW UPDATED!! I believe CSX runs a switch job North out of Raleigh at night to switch some industries along the Norlina line. I rarely go north of the city, so I have not seen them. I do work with a guy who lives north of town and he says that the train does come through town ~ 4AM with ".that darn horn blowin'" Harold ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! I have a few pictures of CSX switching in Staunton, VA on my website. Local runs thrice-weekly between Clifton Forge and Charlottesville, VA. ------------------ Matt's Train Photos [This message has been edited by bnsf521 (edited 03 January 2001).]

Hey Guys! Okay, local action...Here's the low down on Richmond Va local action. It may be a haul away, but y'all probably have a network to get pictures from. Being a disabled conductor for the C&O out of Richmond Terminal helps here. C&O Locals: YY=Yard job YY223 On Duty 14:30 hours Switches Lehigh Cement down along James River. Easy access from Route 5 & Main Street. Decent switching action on a shoving move. Run across brick streets and old bridge. YY323 On Duty 22:30 hours Switches approximately 18 industries including Nabisco, Weyerhauser, Stone Container, etc. Best viewed at Charles City Road. All above go on duty at Fulton Yard - Old Osbourne Turnpike. RF&P Acca Terminal YY120 On Duty 08:00 hours Goes North to switch industries across from Amtrak Station. Because of morning traffic, crew usually not released from yard until after 11:00 AM YY122/222 On Duty 06:30 and 15:59 hours This job switches the old Atlantic Coast line Clopton Yard. Take Route 60 South out of the city, cross the James, and proceed through about 5 lights. You'll see the tracks on the right. Look for the crossing gates. Good switching, with cement as a highlight. YY124/224 On duty 07:00 and 15:59 respectively These jobs go down through the old Seaboard Hermitage Yard and switch Deep Water siding that runs parallel of I-95 just south of Richmond. You'll need a map once you get off of I-95 just south of the James. I can't remember anymore. You'll hit CSX action and NS action. Pushers from Fulton run 24-7 across the viaduct. If you like Pizza, stop in at the pizza joint right under the viaduct. I can't remember the name of it, but its on main street almost across from the old Main St. Station. Good Pizza, Beer, Babes, and Trains! Man it don't get any better than that...here on earth anyway! Hope this helps...Times are what they were when I left the yard. If y'all have radios, here are the frequencies stations: Fulton Yard 08 08 Main Line Channel 70 70 Yard Channel Acca 60 60 North Yard Channel 80 80 South Yard Channel 32 32 68 68 Seaboard No 1 Main, No 2 Main respectively 96 96 RF&P Main line North Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy! Hey Randy, Thanks for the info. Richmond is a great place to catch CSX action. I was there in August and it appears that they were renovating the old station. Is that true? Corey, Thanks for the Bull Sheet info; I forget what a great resource that is. I went through Wallace, N.C. yesterday morning as they were "saddling up" and heading out. The power was an SD50/GP30slug/GP40-2. Around lunch time, I saw the slug set (only) switching cars south of town, proabably for the F726 or F737. I was there in August and it appears that they were renovating the old station. Is that true? Harold

Hey Harold Yes, It is true! The scoop when I was there, was that Amtrak has purchased the station and is refurbishing it. They have outgrown the Staples Mill Rd. Station north of Richmond. They were supposed to start using the station in 2004. Both main lines ( C&O & Seaboard ) on the viaduct will go back to double main line, and plans were made to develop a dedicated passenger main line up the hill, around ACCA yard and add an additional main line up the RF&P to Washington. On the southern end, a wye was to be put in with the NS interchange so that Amtrak could start running an alternate route West via the old N&W line through Lynchburg out to Roanoke headed towards Ohio and Kentucky. I don't know if they are progressing with this or what. I do know that all of it has been paid for with recent taxes slated for Amtrak. Amtrak will also be building(planned) a loco/car facility where the old brown st yard used to be, where the peninsula sub of the C&O now meets the piedmont sub. We'll see...pretty big plans for only 3 years away! Take care! Randy
Thanks to all for the compliments on my web site, Matt's Train Photos. And, I have entered it in the contest. I have come over from Trainorders to check out this forum due to impending TO/ERN merger. I like what I have seen so far. Everyone here seems to be friendly and cordial to one another, unlike some of the childish behavior I have observed on TO. Anyway, I look forward to spending time here in the future. ------------------ Matt's Train Photos
Randy, Thanks for the update on Richmond! That seems like a pretty ambitious plan, but it could work By the time that is done, we may have re-established the S-Line from Norlina (N.C.) to Emporia (Va.) to make that high speed rail connection that Amtrak wants! Pat, That is a great find; I can't wait to see the pictures. The local I saw this week also had a caboose, although it was not a bay window.
