    Hi All!
I have acquired Atlas, Athearn and Walthers NACC Boxcars decorated for the D&H. I have changed numbers and upgraded the couplers (body mounted) and trucks.
The question I have is what service were they used for? These were the only RBL Plug door cars on the roster.

    Can anyone help?

I'm uncertain, but paper service would be my first guess. Plug door cars are excellent for loading of paper rolls because the plug doors provide a smooth interior surface for the rolls to abut and ride damage-free. The D&H handled a lot of Canadian newsprint and served a paper mill at Ticonderoga, NY.

Hardcoaler, wouldn't cars in newsprint service be identified, stencilled in some way? Maybe Bruce could find some proto photos and enlarge them.

That's a good point. I have none of my own photos to reference and came up dry on the Internet too.

Always featured RBL cars were insulated box cars with DF (damage free) appliances to restrain the loads being carried.

ie. The Cadillac of box cars short of mechanical refrigerator cars.

Sepp K had a very good Idea. in the D&H painting guide, pg 56, top image I managed to read " When Empty return to EL RR in Buffalo for Pillsbury Co." Getting closer...possibly bags of flour
