    Darren,

Glad you got the disc, so, anything usable?.....I looked at the schematics,, they appear to have what I need, but they are too small to read, even enlarged. Any suggestions on how to get/make larger copies that I can translate into a track plan?
Thanks so much for researching this, this is the most info I've had on the Washington branch ever....

    Thanks,
    Phil

Ptinted it out, still can't quite read it......are these scans? possibly we can go the "burn a CD route" if I could get each map to 8x11" printed, then they should be readable. BTW, any of the images on the cd I sent usable (or interesting) to you?

Well a few, LIKE ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!

Yes, I made these from scans of items in my personal collection. I will get a higher resolution scan and upload it for your review soon and if you would rather get the scans via CD/DVD I can certainly do that for you as well.

Glad you liked the pics, I get back up in the Granville area 3-4 times a year so I can shoot anything you'd like to see. When I go up in the spring, I have been led to believe that there is a sort of "boxcar graveyard" in Whitehall and I intend to try to get some pics, most likely out-of-order cars that wre not deemed worth repairing and were just stored on inactive tracks & sidings.

As far as the scans, whatever will let me print them out as large as possible on a standard printer (8 1/2x 11") and with as much resolution as possible to see max detail, if you think burning a disc would do this, I'd surely appreciate it.

As an aside, about 10 years ago, when I first started "eBaying" I saw an ALCO builder's plate posted, did some research in my reference books and discovered it was from D&H RS-3 #4058. It is in remarkable condition with only some faint chisel marks where it was removed "by force". I bid on it and it closed on a holiday, I think, Thanksgiving, apparently only a few were watching and there were 4 bidders, I bid about 20 seconds before it ended and got it for $193.00. I have only seen a few ALCO plates offered and they went for MUCH more, so I consider mine a lucky buy. I have only found one picture (on the D&H Virtual Museum) from the Scott J. Whitney
collection, taken at Whitehall, would love to have a print of that photo to display with the plate. Wonder if the DHVM would like a pic of the plate?

    Cheers,
    Phil

    Darren,

I'll take a pic of the plate this weekend, please email me at: hoscale@paonline.com
with a email address I can send the image to. Even with a dial-up, I should be able to send a single image, I'm presuming you want as hi-rez as possible. I'll shoot it outdoors so the lighting is better.

You can send it to my DHVM Webmaster email account found on:

    http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/contact.htm

Hi-Res is great but in the end I still have size and compress it down when I post it on the website, so don't try/feel it needs to a huge image either. On the flip side, I will get you some truly major scans of the images you are looking for over the weekend. If you find it's to hard to get them download when I post one for your review I will burn them onto a DVD/CD and USPS them to you. Drop me your home address on the DHVM Webmaster email so I have it.

    Darren,

looks good, I can read it.......but, took 1.5 hours to down load on my dialup. Tried at work on a DSL, I can only print part of it. If you are willing, lets try the CD/DVD route, I can take it to a commercial printer and get a large print made. I sent my address with the builder's plate photo to your webmaster email...

    Thanks,
    Phil

I thought it might be painful with you on dial-up; will get a complete set burned at Hi-Res for you to CD and send it to the address I got via email.

Many thanks to Darren for helping with track structure. This is a terrific forum, I've read lots of the other threads and a lot of good information is available here. I also want to recognise and thank all who welcomed me to the forum. Having grown up in Granville during the 1949-1964 period and having many fond memories of those black RS2 & 3's with yellow stripes & lettering making their way across main street, watching them switch the spur at Telescope Folding Furniture (we called it the "cot bed factory" as they made most, if not all of the military's cot beds) I am now wondering if anyone else on this forum has any reflections or memories of the Washington Branch? This may be redundant, but, this branch ran from Casleton VT (where it interchanged with The Rutland) linked to Whitehall (D&H yards & engine servicing) and ran to Eagle Bridge where, I believe, there was an interchange with the B&M.....Any thoughts (or corrections)??

    Cheers to all,
    Phil

Terrific!, I'll let you know when it comes. BTW, are you planning to use any of my photos to update your DHVM site? If so, please feel free to use them. I have (6) postcards of the Granville Station that date from the turn of the century till about 1930, I can scan & send them if you wish....some are quite interesting, would show some earlier views that you don't often see.

    Thanks again,
    Phil
