So 2-3 days ago, a single car (actually a single truck) derailed in Gore Canyon. It was dragged for about a mile and rumors range from 6000 to 10000 concrete ties need replaced. In the two days since, they've gotten some temporary patches in place and today reopened the line to get trains moving again. The first train to start out, a manifest, ran over the derail at Kremling after the crew knocked of the handbrakes and started pulling out of the siding. The manifest had sat for two days waiting for the line to be opened. There was enough momentum, and it's down grade, that the train continued over the derail and tore up the switch at the west end of Kremling. You can see the leader sitting a bit off kilter in the picture here... http://www.skyhidailynews.com/news/13983086-113/pacific-train-union-county Did I mention that the Denver Service Unit has a brand new Superintendent. Didn't even get a chance to warm the chair in his new office. Best thing is no one got hurt. But a couple of guys might have the rest of the holidays off.
