CSX has donated C&O 3161, an extended-vision cupola caboose, to Toledo Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum. It has been moved to TLE&W's property in Grand Rapids, OH for restoration into full Chessie System paint.
The body and trucks look in fairly good shape for 50+/- years old. Hope the interior hasn't suffered too much and can be restored inexpensively.
You're pretty close on the age, having been built in September of 1968. Interior is a little rough due to some vandalism, but it won't take much to make it presentable.
Not yet, Dan. Just running motorcar across the bridge on weekends. Hard to believe that this is the newest piece of equipment and it's 50 years old!
TLE&W has a fundraiser up on their Facebook page to gain money for replacement of the missing windows and other restoration work. There is also a donation button on their website, tlew.org.
