I'm making a Milwaukee Road EP-2 class Bi-polar in the first non-black scheme in N scale. I call it the experimental scheme since it is the only one. To date, after extensive research, I can only find 4 photos of this loco- and not all of them are helpful. Here is what I have. 1. B&W ski train. Not very helpful. In the Hundmann book by Noel Holley, p116. 2. B&W, common shot. from internet. Also in Holley's Hundmann book. Credit says this shot is at a Milwaukee library. This shot is helpful. 3. B&W off ebay. Helpful for nose info. 4. Lastly, the only color shot I've seen. Helpful, but small. In Noel Holley's book for NJ International, Classic Power 2: Milw Rd Bi-polar Electrics, p19. And that's it. Unable to find any more. Do you have a shot in your Milw Rd books? Or collection? Aside from getting the paint scheme exactly correct, I need more info because I don't see a horn anywhere on these shots. Shot #2 above has a nub on the A end a bit behind the horn which is exactly where the horn will go- because I've seen a horn in that spot on #E-1 in the Cigar scheme. So I'm planning on putting a horn there. But I cannot see a horn on the B end in any of these poor shots nor on any shot of E-1 in the cigar scheme. Could this have had only one horn? I find that hard to believe- especially since it would have had a steam whistle on each end in the black scheme. And my research shows 3 possible horn locations on the EP-2, but horn seem to be scarce on #E1! Any research help would be appreciated. Thanks. BTW- I'm not interested at all in paintings, drawings, and painted models. I've already seen a lot and there are a LOT of errors on them (probably because there is so very little info on this locomotive). I'm only interested in prototype info.
I have the same books, so cannot add anything. Have you tried contacting Noel? PS- Can't see the photos....
Here is the color shot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/saUWsM1kEkcM5XXy7 Here is the good side B&W shot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wSUrNQanBg2ujYis6 Here is the B&W nose shot. https://photos.app.goo.gl/YBaMkZbutEFCJiqL6 And here is the useless shot (as far as any detail goes). https://photos.app.goo.gl/xDAyHyUmWGvD6JkaA
Try the links in post #5 just above. I looked at them in a different browser un-logged in and I could see them. So hopefully you can too. These are the only 4 shots I can find. As far as contacting Noel Holley, I wouldn't have a clue how to do that. Anyone know?
Hi Kurt. Thanks, I wonder if that's based on a real photo? Normally, an EP-2 could pull a whole 11-car consist- so double heading would not be needed.
Your welcome! I found the puzzle on Ebay a few years back for $10, couldn't pass that up, but once I got it I realized the E1 had a strange paint scheme! No other info on the box, and I've never seen this in a pic. All my Milwaukee Road books, none have this paint scheme in a pic. Maybe someone at the MRHA might have a lead?
http://streamstylegraphics.com/galleryElectric.html Todd is pretty thorough with his research. Might be a help
Retired. Still lives in Seattle. As far as I know has not moved and (in the era of cell phones) might even still have the same phone number. Is quietly on Facebook. Rarely will post on some MILW Internet group. Check your PMs.
There were times when they pulled more than the usual numbers of cars. Examples such as when world military activities saw increased rail movement of manpower. Then there were large groups of Boy Scouts traveling to their annual ("jamborees"?) affairs. Social groups traveling to their annual conventions.
