When the Erie and the DL&W merged, that resulting company was named Erie Lackawanna RAILROAD. At some later time, it was re-named Erie Lackawanna RAILWAY. Does anyone have a date? And a reason why? Boxcab E50
Couldn't find anything in my books, yet. Over the weekend,I'll talk to some EL guys & get you an answer.
Close as I can remember, the name was changed to Railway after 1972 when the EL declared bankruptsey and the N&W pulled out.
It must have happened slightly earlier. Looking through my paperwork collection, I find numerous examples of stationery with dates of 1970 and 1969, which show "Railway." Boxcab E50
