Several did .. though most were of the simplified GN Orange/Green or Big Sky Blue. Here's BN 626/ex-GN 308. Photo info indicates this was in Sept. 1970 http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bn/bn626adb.jpg And here's BN-668/ex-GN 454A. Photo info indicates this was in May 1974 http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bn/bn668adb.jpg
Kevin, That BN 668 was taken in Spokane, at where the Parkwater roundhouse used to be. The building in the background is still there. That photo is from my collection.
Fitz, Did they manage to get this one back? Last I saw it was stranded on the now disconnected from the rest of the system portion of the POTB system, parked down there next to the Oregon Coast Scenic (this would have been about March) but I am not aware it has been brought back over on a trailer or any such thing.
I'm sorry if I mislead anyone. That photo was taken last year or the year before, returning from the Sherwood car show. Since then, the engine went over to the POTB and is still there, isolated as Adam said. I believe they have used it in service prior to the washouts. I thought I had another shot of it at Garibaldi. If I find it, I'll post it. :tb-sad: Yeah, here it is: I guess I should have said "It LIVES at the Brooklyn roundhouse but is TDY at the POTB.
As I understand it, it's been used as a backup by Oregon Coast Scenic. It looked good out there by the bay in Garibaldi in March.
Was there a location on this turntable photograph? I am hoping that it may be the secondary turntable in Hillyard but I am not sure?
Derek See Dan's reply (SDP45) above ..this is one of his photo's that can be found on Fallen Flags .. and which is why I always post links to photo's I find. Dain said the location is the Parkwater roundhouse in Spokane, Washington. Definitely a well "weathered" GN unit!! :tb-cool:
Photo usage Guys, Feel free to post any more of those photos of mine that you want. No problems here. They are meant to share. I have lots of photos at the Fallen Flags website. If there is any doubt to who I really am, drop a line to BoxcabE50. He can vouch for me. Dan Bolyard
Just giving you a heads up. The F7 still hasn't returned to the Brooklyn roundhouse in the past 2 months. Ive been working on the PRPA Crew car the past 2 weeks and it hasnt been around. Just an update!
Derek, welcome to Trainboard! Unless they plan to bring it back on a truck, it can't get back on rails until the POTB is repaired from the washouts experienced last winter. :tb-sad:
DLMX 274 has been stranded out on the coast since storms last December. They're either going to have to rebuild the washouts to get it back out or barge it out (from where I don't know) or put it on a trailer and drive it back but not through the tunnel on 26 as I don't think it would fit.
I am new to model railroading and have decided to focus on the Great Northern. I live in Washington state and have always loved the "rocky" symbol so it seemed like a natural choice. My question is this. I always read references, like the one in this thread by the original poster, about GN Green/Orange. When I look at those pictures all I see is Orange and Brown. What am I missing? Thanks, Clint
I believe that what you are seeing is simply the ravages of time. The green has been weather beaten. And seems to be a brown. I don't remember a true brown. Just a very dark green. But that's been a long time ago. Boxcab E50
Official Great Northern color designations for the engine paint scheme were the following: The green is Pullman Green (Dulux 83-4558). The orange is Omaha Orange (Dulux 83-35617) The yellow striping is Imitation Gold (Dulux 83-50931) Craig
