This thread just gave me an excuse to scan & post some of my own photos, so if you don't have the patience, EXIT NOW (Most are in the 60-90k range ) Here's a fairly well maintained Chessie unit (with the poorly matched patch job for its new reporting marks & #'s) that had wandered into my hometown: Harold
Here's another unit in the Raleigh "yard" in '88; they were still a rarity in these parts at that time: Harold
Likewise, this unit also has 2 sets of reporting marks on the cab: Harold [ 17 March 2001: Message edited by: chessie ]
Last one for the night: this one was shot in Raleigh on a very foggy day (note the absence of sky behind the locomotive and cars): Harold
Chessie, Nice pictures!!!!! You wouldn't have any of the "Chessie Steam Special" would you??? In color??? I modeled the Chessie Steam Special in HO and I went by a few of bad pictures and would like to see if what I had to guess on the colors are right...

Harold, I looked at those pictures before and the problem is that the Blue/Black on the boiler is hard to determine between the 2! I need to see a picture or pictures of the Chessie Steam Special in a good view and so that the colors can be determined right. I just wish pictures wouldn't distort the colors so bad that it isn't possible to tell the difference between blue and black. Thanks anyway though I appreciate the thought and your time....
Someone may be able to point you to better pictures out there on the 'Net. It is always hard to tell exact colors from photos anyway due to film reproduction qualities, storage (and fading), not to mention the fading of the prototype due to aging and weathering. As long as your model looks close, you can successfully defend it's colors! Harold
Chessie, I painted the loco's boiler black. But in the pictures it also looks blue. The rest of the loco is exact in color the yellow and orange. I got the looks right and the lines I just wasn't real sure of the boiler if it was black or if it was blue. Overall it looks great, the whole train is custom. The loco is a 4-8-4 Bachmann, customized to the Chessie T-1 spec's, The cars are MDC Roundhouse, painted to the spec's of the train. I did do alittle freelancing on it though. I bought MDC "Harriman" Passenger cars!! I got them at a real great price of $2.50 each! And I priced the streamline ones and they were like $12.99 or so.... I went with the cheaper and made them look great in Chessie colors. I'm in the process of lighting the cars and making interiors for them, And buying the pass. cars diaframs for on the ends, between cars. Its spetacular looking from a bright colored steamer and the cars to match. And after I get the interiors in it and lit up, it'll look even better...
cheesie , I always loved the paint jobs on the B&O engines , with the cat on the side . When I was a little kid we used to be close the CSX main-line that ran thru Flint and I remeber those engines .

I never saw Chessie engines (except in books) until after the CSX merger! Around here, it was Southern and Seaboard Coast Line engines Harold
I added some more GP38 pictures to my North Carolina Railfan website. I was scanning old photos and uploading them when I ran out of web space [Hopefully, I'll be granted some more ] Anyway, here's a direct link to the CSX page: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/csx.htm Harold
