After being away from this hobby for 25 years, a couple months back I unpacked all the model railroad "stuff" that had been packed away when we moved to the current place. I also finally set up a work bench in the room that was always supposed to be the hobby room. My primary interest has been logging railroads ever since Model Railroader had the audacity to publish the piece on Little River Railroad's No 126 in the March 1962 issue. Like the majority, I model in HO. I doubt I will ever build another layout at this point in my life but a diorama may be in the works. As for other interests, it was primarily skiing, backpacking, and pre 1972 Jeeps. The infirmity of old age is putting a crimp in the two former activities but I'm still involved with the Jeeps, currently a 55 CJ 3B, and 67 and 68 CJ 5's. There isn't much anything stock left in the B but the 5's remain much as they left Toledo. And I should mention the initial motivator for all this: a Reuhl model of the Lorain shovel that has been in need of TLC for longer than that 25 year RR hiatus. I purchased that new from the local Caterpillar dealer in 1957. It saw a lot of hours in the dirt piles.
Yep, I decided HO was going to be the happy compromise 70 something years back and nothing has changed since.------Excepting maybe my ability to see what the he-- I'm doing.
