I haven't had a model RR in years and will be starting in again. I enjoy building things. One thing I was always fascinated with is the idea of hand laid track, just like the real world....
Looking in the magazines and Walthers, I see absolutely NOTHING about hand laid rails and supplies. Does it no longer exist ???

It's there... Micro Engineering has rail in Code 100 down to Code 40... as well as ties and spikes. And several companies make the pcb ties if you are into that method...

I still handlay my track. I am in the middle of a new addition to my layout. Micro Engineering is really the only place to get rail anymore. The place to look is a Walthers catalog. There are several suppliers of ties. BK Enterprises has switches, frogs, etc if you aren't into building your own. You might also find some code 100 rail from other than Micro Engineering. I have gotten all of my supplies from ME though.

I agree that BK prices are high. Building frogs and points just takes time. Building the whole switch for that matter just takes practice. Depending on the switch number, you can build a switch for the price of one piece of rail, about $1.00.
