I want to start designing my Model Railroads Web site and I need a little help. How do you do it? I've tried by using my "Paint" program to design the Opening page but I'm stuck there. E-Mail me your help and suggestions so we don't clog up the board here. Thanks for any help you can give.

    Brent,
It may be an advantage to post here so members can learn from your experiences. you mentioned you use a paint program to design your home page. I would start by downloading one of the many HTML editors. I use microsoft frontpage which seems to do the trick but there are plenty of others.

    Brent,
As Paul said - just download an editor. I´m sure the help functions are rather good in most of the editors.
If you are using Internet Explorer, try the Frontpage as Paul mentioned.
If you are using Netscape, try the Composer.
Both me and my wife make our pages with Netscape Composer. In the beginning I used to write plain HTML code on NotePad, but the Composer works for me nowadays too.
Just ask for advice if you need.

Your using PAINT, so I suggest you want to design a graphic for the page??

    NO?

    1) HTML program - http://www.sausagetools.com/ Home of HOTDOG. THE EASIEST HTML program on earth. Drag and Drop!

Frontpage etc are a little more advanced. http://fosi.ural.net/ download HOMESITE 4.5 try this. Its also Simple.

    2) for graphics, PAINT is a good start, but you will find it hard to do anything more than BASIC.. Maybe goto http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/
or http://download.cnet.com/ and search for graphics programs, HTML editors, and download a few from there. You can get Demos, Shareware, and freeware..

When you get something up on a server, then mail the URL here and the people here will also be M O R E than willing to help (You know that already!)

You can also go to places like geocities.com and use their "page-builder" tools. It's a great way to start out. Creat a page using the pagebuilder tools and it also has a great html editor and file manager.

I started out using webtv pagebuilder, but learned html so I could "tweek" their codes to get the pages to look as I wanted them. after that I went to geocities to start from "scratch" :D

read up on html tutorials and start out simple, and go from there. I have been doing this for 3-years and I am still learning
