Theres a light at the end of the tunnel, a gateway perhaps as Summer is close and this weekend for many is the unofficial start to to that season. It's time for Weekend Modeling Plans.

A quiet weekend for me as Jared doesn't have any games and I have no shows. One plan that is on my list is to clean and organize the garage as well as other parts of the house that need some tidying up. I also want to get Jess the Railfan Wrangler ready for Galesburg by cleaning her, washing her and putting a coat of wax on her.

Model railroad desires are just a few. With Galesburg a short five weeks away, I have two Kato SD70 ACe locomotives in N that need to be painted. Into what? I'll tell you later, but these locomotives will be special. Last weekend I purchased a decoder and a new Atlas GP9 that is DCC ready. I have had a Digitrax Zephyr for years but never used it. Mainly because I thought I needed a power supply. Imagine my surprise when I finally opened it a few weeks ago and saw a power supply! All of my locomotives for the layout are older Atlas that are not DCC ready so I picked up some new locomotives last weekend that I intend to swap the shells and install DCC on the layout. The next big thing I need to look at is turn out control, of which, I'm still leaning towards the ole' stand by Tortoise machines. If weather and family allows, some time with my Maywood Station module would be nice too.

Monday of course is Memorial Day here in the States. While many of us will have Monday off, maybe with plans to have a cook out, go to a park, or shudder-shopping, we need to remember those Men and Women who made it all possible. The day is a day to remember those brave soldiers who worked, fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Remember them, honor them. Remember our Men and Women stationed over seas and in different countries and be thankful for the job they do. To be thankful to a current enlisted individual or a Vet, tran sends party lines. Let's remember what Memorial Day is about and not allow it to become just another day off focused on sales at big box stores and car lots.

With that said, we will meet back here on Tuesday the 28th and see how we all did over the long weekend. Until then, have a happy, safe long weekend and...

    Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
God Bless our Men and Women who served and continue to serve, we thank you!

Great sentiment, Jim. Sometimes we forget that there's a reason for this holiday, other than the fact that we just need a day off.

I'm looking forward to the great weather that's forecast for New England, clouds, showers and rain. Great modeling weather, I'll tell you. SWMBO's garden will have to wait, although I may look for a break to put down some anti-ant stuff.

Meanwhile, I've got the base for the carfloat all built. It's a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood topped with 2-inch foam. I put a Masonite fascia around it, with a 1/4 inch lip on top to form the basin for the Envirotex pour. I'll need to seal the inside edges and then paint the base. Similarly, there's a small area around the apron base that will get the same treatment. While I had the Masonite out, I also cut the base for the Empire Leather Tanning Company liftoff section. That's a multi-building Walthers kit that will be the last major scene for Phase 2 of my layout. I hope to get the liftoff section structurally built, and maybe spray-paint all those brick walls so I can begin the tedious job of trim-painting and mortaring as time permits. Here's the gap that will become the tannery:

A good weekend to all of you. For those outside of the US, feel free to celebrate our holiday anyway. The traditional meal, for those who are unfamiliar with it, is something cooked outdoors on a grill.

And from Illinois too! Very nice Jim, looks like a 2005 TJ? Jess is a year one TJ and mostly stock although she does have the same bumpers as yours. Where in Illinois are you? You should come out to Galesburg RR Days in June. Nice Railfan Wrangler!

Good call, Jim. It's an '04. I'm in Wolf Lake, IL. Down south near the Mississippi River.
