Enjoyable weekends are fast weekends, so how fast did your weekend go by?

After I posted on Friday, three members of my club picked me up and we all headed to Columbus Ohio for a great weekend of N scale. I said it in the Ohio N scale weekend thread but it bears repeating, the event was well run, low stress, good food, fun auction and great people. Seeing modular displays from New Jersey to Indiana was a real treat too. I spent way too much, more than what I had planned, but the deals were hot. New items destined for my paint shop include a pair of Kato SD70 ACe's, a Bachman 44 Tonner and a Atlas GP38-2. I also picked up people and cars for my Maywood station module and some freight cars. Our club had an L shaped T-Trak set-up and I ran a BNSF mixed freight, B&M mixed freight, Chicago Central mixed freight and the Q Zephyr. All in all a great weekend and already looking forward to next year.

So how about you? Did you have a good weekend running trains? How about layout time? Benchwork, scenery or painting? Whatever your plans were, let us know, with pictures if you have them. We'll come back on Friday the 24th and start all over again. Until then...

    High Greens!

When our daughter crossed the stage at her college graduation and they said summa cum laude after her name, there was an understandable blip in my pride indiex. And, has Jim noted, it bears repeating that this event was well run, too. 1500 graduates, beteween undergrads and grad school, and it only took 2 1/2 hours. The speeches were short, and the main one, by Maine's Independent Senator Angus King, was the best graduation speech I'd ever heard. So, this weekend had no trains, other than an unplanned glimpse of the Downeaster as it cruised through Old Orchard Beach, and a book about regional railroads of the Midwest I picked up at a discount bookstore next to one of those seashore fried-everything stands where we had lunch. (Clams, chicken, onion rings, sure, but deep-fried Twinkies?)

Wow, this weekly thread is flirting with abandonment with the amount of activity within the last few years. Do I need to induce a contest each week to get more modelers to participate?

Seriously, what can we do to make this Friday/Monday modeling thread more active for YOU, the modeler? When this was started way back in 2004, we would get 2-3 pages of responses. Now we get one or two responses.

    Participate and enjoy your hobby.

Last weekend I drove the "golden spike" on my HO scale Zalma Branch point to point layout. Next I'll run bus wires underneath to connect all the track feeders.

It's seasonal, I'm afraid. We're coming out of our basements like the Mole in Wind in the Willows, excited by the fresh air (until the pollen makes us sneeze) and ready to do outdoor activities. I'm an exception, because I like skiing but not hot weather, and I do more modeling in the summer. But, the shows and open houses are basically done here in New England until the fall. Even I hope to be pumping up my tires and oiling my chain on my bicycle this weekend.

One thing, though, that might help - I liked this thread better when it was posted in the Inspection Pit. As a more active sub-forum, it had more visibility and probably got more hits. It gets a bit lonely here in Weekly and Special Threads. And, I miss Modeling Photos of the Week, which was a sure-fire draw even here, but hasn't appeared for some time.

Thanks, Mike. That means a lot coming from a modeler of your skill set. Here's "Google Earth" shot of my Zalma,MO module which I'm modeling in winter. Not quite on your level but it started out as an experiment in scenery diversity.

Very nice again, Jim. Great atmosphere and I like the track that's been there for decades.

With the coming of warmer weather I have been spending more time outside and railroad construction has slowed considerably. I made progress getting turnouts laid at Linden Yard. When I complete the connecting tracks I will flip the layout on its side and do a bit of wiring.
