I've been reading up on freight locomotives used in Japan to try to add some realism by way of accuracy to my layout plans and came across a magnificent looking creature, the MHI DD54 from the 60s and early 70s (this one pictured here is from the Kyoto National Railway museum). After a little research, however, the history of this misadventure is definitely magnificent, but not in a good way - it reads more like a Saturday Night Live skit than rail lore. Fascinating story, though: https://www.socimi.it/jnr-dd54-diesel-locomotive/
