I'm getting to the stage where if it doesn't precisely fit my era, region and al, I can live without it. I'm holding out for F9s in D&RGW single stripe livery for my RGZ. Other than that, no real needs. Lots of projects in various stages to keep me busy otherwise.
The binder set should serve you well!

I'm finally getting to this point as well Hemi.
Once I started my layout (2008) and was able to focus a lot better. Once the layout was operational and I was running Ops, I was able to focus much tighter. Today, I have to force myself to go to the LHS and buy something on a whim like I used to be able to do. Like you I've got a lot of projects to work on. It's actually a great feeling to have. Enjoying the hobby and not having to worry about where I'm going to find the funds for what I want or need.

Richard, my friend, I was just looking at your recent posts and I am in awe of your layout, layout room, and mug collection. The binders are a real great idea. When I 1st got into N scale back in 1992 I always wished that there was an "N Scale for dummies" and then as I eased into decoders I sure as heck needed a "dummies" manual.
You got my gray matter remembering and I recalled what was about the closest to a begginers manual. You are probably too young to have done business with Loy, but I did and he was an excellent resource. Anyone else remember him ?

Thanks for waking up my brain (??).

Carl, Thank you for bringing back the Loys DCC memories. I learnt a lot from his documentation and still have it buried somewhere. It is probably dated now. - Tonkphilip

I remember Loy's but didn't ever purchase anything from them. Ah, memories, right.

Testing the new concrete mix. This probably looks familiar from another thread.

I have had a stand in concrete pad in place for this scene but figured I would replace it someday so had not finished the fencing or other scenery around it.
    20240112_191934a.jpg

Removed all the excess down to the pad
    20240112_192138a.jpg

Then did the test application of the new concrete mix. A bit sloppy but it's a test so figure I can live with that for now. No worse than it was really.
    20240112_193728a.jpg

After it dried, I set the scene stuff back on the pad.

Think when I do a smoother coat, add some stains to the concrete, fix the fence, and add some weeds, it will be good. Oh, and yeah, I'm going to redo that section of road too.

It looks good even though it’s a work in progress. I really like what I’m seeing.

    Update on the fascia project.
My post between here and the Layout Party thread are a bit out of sync but that should sort itself out soon enough. You may have seen this first pick there.
During last week, I got the fascia on what I call the front side of the layout removed
    20231220_155009.jpg

I did some additional prep work on the wires and things Friday evening and made sure I had what I thought I would need to put the new section in place. Sunday it went up and accessories started going on!
Left end: You can also see the hole that will have a Digitrax UP7 in it. That was the spot for the one that had the face plate issue I posted earlier. The replacement shows it is arriving in the mail today.
    20231221_110416.jpg

The center section. The more I look at it, the happier I am with what I went with for the switches.
    20231221_110418.jpg

The right hand end. Issues still to address here. Where the Kato switch controllers go, I missed cutting the notch on the right for the power converter. That will be an easy fix though. In this pic, there is one less switch controller than there will be just so I could set them in the hole and get an idea of how it will look. Next up is the DC/DCC switch panel under the UP7 panel. It didn't fit as planned as I had forgotten the power supply for it sticks straight up out of the back. The fix for that will be to change the square hole to a circle and use one of the plats like on the other switches to mount it. I did some measuring and that should wok out well.
    20231221_110420.jpg

And an overall look. At this point, I still have two throttle pockets and the cup holder to add to the right hand end. Those will mount above the square cut out. That opening is just right for the DC and DCC control stations on top of the shelf just below the opening.
    20231221_110428.jpg

We are closing in on the end of Jenga fun time! Despite all the disconnecting and reconnecting, everything seems to be working as expected and although I expected it, I don't seem to have created any wiring related issues!

LOL, and to me, that's messy.

Even this is messy to me. I keep struggling with how can I rearrange stuff to make it better.

Some people have a skeleton in their closet and Superman had a secret closet, but I can think of no cooler closet than @BNSF FAN's closet. :)

Latest update on the fascia project.

On Monday night, I got one end of the fascia removed
    20231221_212617.jpg

Then on Tuesday night, I removed the other end
    20231221_212638.jpg

That's it for now. When I get back, I am hoping I'll be able to lower the layout back down to it's new height. Makes me anxious to get done and back home.
