Interesting. I'm getting all grey. Is it a browser setting?

Thanks Point. That looks like the link I copied but I must have messed it up when I pasted it.

I was reading through the first half of it last night. Neat stuff.

The catalog is very well laid out. Did anyone notice any new track in particular in HO?
I did see an 'extension' track but at $45 seems a bit much or did I miss something?

Kool stuff. Remember that those are the MRSP prices and a lot of places will have them cheaper.

Sure wish I had started using Unitrack much sooner than I did. I am very happy with it. It may cost money, but the quality and reliability are well worth that investment.

I got lucky coming to Trainboard 20 years ago and receiving the advice on Kato.

I am mildly disappointed in the limited 'HO' track selection and the new #4 turnout design that just does not work the way they say it does.

I have now carefully read the HO content of the catalog.
My conclusion is that it confirms 'HO' track is not that popular in Japan.
    HO Scale
#4 Turnouts are *not* power routing
    #6 Turnouts are power routing
The catalog shows nice neat pics of the new #4 Turnouts fitting together easily. They *don't*. Using their medoids you would be lifting the track off the table. I might order one more and get pics of it.

    Power Routing
Since I have 3 power supplies already that is not such a big deal - for me. For others? That could be a royal pain.
That the pieces of turnouts don't fit together smoothly and you are better off getting the older style? Maybe in Japan it makes more sense.

    My Technical Takeaway:
In 'N Scale' ? Empires are possible / encouraged.
In HO Scale? No more than 20 turnouts and try to use the older style or #6s
There aren't many short curve or traight pieces so plan on cutting your own.

    My Personal Takeaway:
I am fortunate to be able to have a layout at all, (so stop your complaining, Steve.)
It is a bonus that it is relatively small and I can manage it.

Thanks Gray One. Your comments makes me think about switching over to HO. I have two steamers with DCC but now I'm thinking stay with a smaller switching layout. "Oh Well such is life"!

Is all Kato code 83? Is it compatible with standard track/rail joiners (ie: Atlas) if, of course, additional roadbed is added? And, if so, does anyone know what Kato's standard HO roadbed thickness is?

There is A LOT of info to dig thru is there NO 18 radius, only 22.5d & 15d?

Perhaps it has something to do with the leaders balance, time, support and of course Money. Etcetera, etcetera.
Oh well life/hobbies go on. ;)

Sugestion for Easier Reading Finding Data:
To more easily read / sift through the information select from the first HO page down, copy and then paste into a text file. It requires cleaning up but in the process you will likely find a lot of detail obscrued by the layout in the catalog.

    Short Answers
    All track is: Code 83
There is only one 10degree curve mostly intened to work with #6 turnouts.
In theory it is compatible with other brands of code 83 track *but* I expect it requires some 'fudging'. I'm not likely to try this any time soon.

I don't think I'd like using Unitrack in HO nearly as much as in N scale. Just not as much variety (in curve radii, viaducts, bridges, etc.) in HO as in N scale.

Prolly the only time that comparison can be drawn between N and HO!!!

@BigJake I agree that the selection is greatly limited and the lack of power routing in the #4s is unpleasant. Still it forced me to create a better track plan.
For me it keeps it simple.
I can't get complicated with it and that is perfect.
