What's your go-to kit for buildings on your model railway layouts? I've used cardboard and plastic in the past - but for the Brief Encounter monochrome model railway I had to do something different and use laser cut 3mm plywood - the first time I've ever worked with it.

I definitely found lots of pros - and just a few minor cons - with laser cut. Here's a review.

Not kits per se. I work a lot in cardstock. The scale is 1/384, Omega scale. I use an inexpensive laser cutter on occasion. Lately, for cutting passenger car window openings. I design and build all my rolling stock (from diagrams usually) and buildings. Keep up the good work.

    Fantastic!

Omega scale is a new one on me - sounds fascinating!

I have done a single lasercut US outline building kit in 1:160 N Scale so far - though there are others I'd like to try at some point. For that kit I did the assembly with Aileen's Tacky Glue - which is a thick PVA style glue sold stateside for arts and crafts work. A little goes a long way, and the "tacky" feature lets me position and double check parts before clamping because its strong enough to hold pieces in position for a bit while you work them to final set.

Saw your video on Youtube. You are a great engineer. I don't remember if I already mentioned that you can google The Omega Scale Railway if you wish to see a couple of pics and read a little background. I may have pointed this out previously. Anyway, I did enjoy the video.

Last week your monochrome layout appeared on my YouTube homepage and I did enjoy seeing your videos.

I have a diode laser cutter and have just started making buildings for my layout using it. So far its only temporary stand-in shapes, used to judge how to build up the terrain, roads and parking lots.

I do want to research some more on making my own kits for n scale, and may purchase a commercial kit to see how they are built.

This beautiful N scale station kit based on the DLW Station in Binghamton, NY was offered by Bergen Scale models. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business. There were over 1000 pieces including the paper window panes. It took me over 50 hours to assemble it. IMG_0007.jpg IMG_0097.jpg Bergen kit (2).jpg

    Wow!!! Beautiful! :)

I see you also have the D&H depot behind it, along with the Chenango Street viaduct, and a bit of the Kingsley building peeking out in the left background. That building has been the backdrop for many railfan photos in Binghamton and triggered my fascination with that area.
