Matt, I am in the process of tearing down one of these and it looks as if the decoder would be best placed near one of the ends of the unit, as the weights are removable. Either remove one of the weights and drop it in there or mill down one of the weights , my guess would be the one opposing the bulb and account for the measurements of the decoder on the initial cut and if all else fails, just call Baltimore and ask for some spares. I am not equipping my units with any decoders at this time and would not forsee any difficulty in doing a decoder , just be sure the shell will sit properly once the installation is complete, as the shell is made up of components and looks like a puzzle when completely disassembled.Hope this helps and have a good one, Justin May
