Sorry, no can do. Both my maps, 1907 B&M and 1947 MEC, were published as inside front covers of two B&M volumes, written and copyrighted by Robert W. Jones. However, I did find this B&M map from 1898 on Wikipedia that can be downloaded, but it's 16MB. mg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1898_Boston_and_Maine_Railroad.jpg In the meantime, I'll download and study it. The only downside is that it shows the system that existed 60-70 years before the issue date of your flimsies.
In which case, it might not have existed. Or could even have been assigned a different name. I have no idea where to look on any map. Boxcab E50
Cumberland Mills is in southern Maine, just west of Portland. I followed each route out of CM with no luck. Southern, eastern central, and northern Maine are fairly flat. The mountains generally are in the western part of central Maine. The MEC Mountain Division follows the northwestern route out CM, through the White Mountains in New Hampshire, then north to Beecher Falls and on into Quebec. The Division's helper district was between Bartlett, NH and Whitefield, NH. The summit was at Crawford-Glen station where the helpers cut off and backed down to their respective terminals, depending whether they had helped westbound or eastbound trains. BTW, even though the map is titled Boston & Maine, it highlights both B&M and MEC since they were owned by the same Corporation. I notice that the map lists many districts by their pre-merger names, even though they already had been absorbed by the B&M. As an aside, Charlie lives up in Calais, a short distance northwest of Eastport on the Coast.
There's a junction mentioned in the Eastport order. Can't read the first letter. Is it an "M"? Does that one seem familiar? Boxcab E50
Ken, don't have a clue at this moment. Eastport, ME did not have a rail connection in 1898, only a passenger ferry connection that could have been owned by the B&M Corp. The nearest raill line was 30-40 miles away, and that was CP. I'll check later maps, 1907 and 1947, maybe something will show up....?
Hank- Where is the thread with that map URL? I wanted to look for another Junction. But can't find the web address...... mg: Boxcab E50
