Note the EMD Blombergs on the GE behind the GP38-2! If it were a street work crew, the ratio of supervisors to workers would be a lot higher. Other than lunch, they'd be wondering what to do with the pile they created in digging the hole...
From 08/23/1996 at Cartersville, GA where @BNSF FAN also finds interesting railroad action. Looks like one of CSX's many paint variants here, with yellow noses added to the stealth scheme. Note the concrete ties on the Atlanta <=> Chattanooga mainline.
Great shot Hardcoaler! That track still occasionally gets used when they are doing some odd switching in Juniata yard but it's been years since I've seen any locos parked there like they used to do. Also, those concrete ties are all gone. Apparently CSX didn't see that it was worth using them again when it came time for replacement.
R J Corman replacing 90# jointed rail rolled in 1921 with 115# CWR on the KCS Gulfport (MS) branch in July 2011. Mating 90# rail to 115# rail. Welding a 115# to 115# rail splice.
Trackwork is my favorite thing building a layout and one of my favorite things on the prototype. too. Doug
I was thinking along the same lines. Anything that can toss a chunk of ballast 200 feet has to be incredibly loud...
