Greetings! I`m new to this site, I see good things here and interesting folks! Am searching for diemensions, or dare I say drawings of Milwaukee`s transfer cabosse. I have photo`s but would love some numbers, how long, wide, etc. Good to see diehard Milwaukee road fans. Happy Rails
The Milwaukee Road Historical Association www.mrha.com sells a book about the Roads steel cabeese, and it has a drawing of a transfer caboose in it. Take a look - you need not to join -though I would recommend doing so. Text from the Website: Milwaukee Road's Steel Cabooses is the follow-up to the MRHA's highly successful rib-side caboose book. It features every type of caboose rostered by the railroad, from the early bay window (non rib sided) models to the drovers cabooses to the transfer cabooses and the International extended vision cars. This 40 page book features dozens of black & white and color photos as well as a special all-color center spread of the transfer caboose. Six chapters plus a special photo section and a roster of provide caboose fans with all sorts of information, including modeling tips. hth and happy modelling Michael
Hiya! In Milwaukee Road technical terminology for their transfer caboose, they called it a "Terminal caboose." I have information on four different constructions. All home shop built. (Milwaukee Shops.) Variances in most all. I am a long time MRHA member. And have been active in the Group. Boxcab E50 [ September 21, 2005, 01:15 PM: Message edited by: BoxcabE50 ]
What about me?? 5 years Aloha Mike, Welcome! A few of the terminals were made from old steam tender frames, which I belive were about 36' long. A few others were made from old wooden cabooses with the copulas taken off. There's a lot of info in the book except they don't really have blueprints in them. Still you can get a good idea from the photos.
I can scan, and post up general dimension drawings..... If of any interest? There are four. Boxcab E50
WoW! What a great response! Please understand that this has been a quest of mine for some years through train web sites as well as search engines. I`m most grateful to "all the web.com" for connecting me to this site! I tried to contact MRHA, but got no response, no kidding. Really great to hear from you folks. Thanks. Would love to find out about the variations of terminal coboose`s shopped in Milwaukee. I could kick myself for not bringing a measuring tape with me when I had the chance years ago. You guys made my day, week, month and year in a very good way!!
Ken, What ever you can put together will be appreciated, I have built two but only had pictures to scale and go by! Mike, Keep trying the MRHA, send them an E-mail and wait awhile, it takes them a little while to respond!
OK. Here we go... If you look closely, you can see slight differences in the ladders, and ? Plus overall lengths. Terminal Caboose #01730: I hope you guys can read all the details? Boxcab E50
Yes. They are really helpful, but keep in mind that from now on we are going to ask you every time we need some drawings .....
Ken These are really excellent, thanks for taking the time and posting these. Now how about some drawings of other equipment such as depots, lineside structures, and maybe a few other pieces of equipment. George
Ken From the heart, Mahalo and Aloha Nui Loa. I dare say I met Santa Claus on line, though he changed his name to Ken and left his gift on my monitor! Helpful? A Yea. To me the stuff dreams begin with, the spark was always there, now I have the road map! My wife probably won`t go fo this, but I`m thinking of your drawings in a wallpaper format, perhaps a ceiling application as well! Oh my lord, this is like gold. Thank you so very much for taking the time, what a wonderful gift, if I can be of assistance or support do not hesitate to ask.
Boxcab, way cool..... Now I need to look if the Milkwaukee ever used them around Tacoma (maybe on the switch move over to the barge apron?)
