Can someone help me identify these cars? I think I know what they are for but I would like it confirmed and what line owns them. Also, if anyone has better pictures with markings and/or with loads I would like to see those. Thanks!
Okay, I can see the pasted image just fine but let's try it this way too. I've uploaded the image to this reply so hopefully it can now be seen. Thanks for letting me know about the issue.
They are used for carrying raw untreated hardwood ties. There is an HO model for it. http://www.protoloads.com/shop/protoloads-ho-scale-60-tie-flatcar-with-raw-hardwood-ties/
And here I thought we were looking at a white boxcar in the snow with a weird insignia on the side. Doug
Yes. The pic was shot in Ft. Madison, Ia. But it's a fair question which has been asked before. This is, after all, the road that put 20,000 gallon water capacity tenders behind some of their 2-6-2 types. They were clearly not afraid of the tail wagging the dog.
Excellent and thank you. I thought that was what they were for but I have never seen them with a load. Do they only haul untreated ties? If so, why would they not haul treated ties?
I suppose they could be used for treated ties too. I have only seen treated ties in gondolas... but that was years ago before these new cars existed.
