Ok I got a bear today… and a deer, and buffalo… and dead versions of each, but mainly I wanted the bear. They were bright yellow so out came the paint.

The bear is kinda watching over all the humans…

Lol… Prolly but what to eat? There is a guy holding a fish, and black bears love fish, but there is also people… black bears don’t normally eat people, but people are edible.

I’m glad black bears don’t like people, I was about 10 feet from one when I was 15. It looked at me for a few, my friend and I did the same to it, and it eventually got bored and walked away down the same trail we were going down. We went back the way we came.

Here we go with another finished (mostly) module. It’s finished enough to be used in displays, I still need some details like guard rails and maybe some people doing something down below. But that will come with time.

I also got some work done on “Children of the Corn” module. I bought 2 boxes of summer corn from Bluford and spent a good amount of time clipping them from the sprues… that was fun… and arranged them for the module. There is a “clearing” just like in the movie, now I just need to find or make “the blue man” and have the kids worship him. I was also thinking of doing an Easter egg of putting a car parked by the barn with a Saint Bernard standing on the hood. All sorts of Steven King stuff going on. Pics of the CotC module coming soon.

It’s just Woodland Scenics Fine Ballast in grey. Nothing special.

Here is the Children of the Corn module. Like I said before I still need to find or make something that will fill in as the Blue Man and I have kids already. I need a kid dressed in black… I bought some 1:200 scale people which should fit the bill. But those will be for later.

    For now enjoy the pics.

I love this idea. Huge Stephen King fan and I’m absolutely going to steal this idea and use it as an Easter egg in my layout-it’s going to start at the WI-IL border so I was already planning a couple of corn and soybean fields. Can’t wait to see what this looks like finished!

Those both look great. Where did you get that barn? That would be perfect for a module I want to do that had a Meramec Caverns sign on it. Drove past it everyday for 7 years.

I think I remember that one! I used to drive from NW Arkansas (Fayetteville & Huntsville) to St Louis to visit my brother in the early-mid 1980s. I also interned a couple of summers in college with Emerson Defense in SL MO.

That takes me back... Dust trails on dirt roads, the sweet smell of fresh mown hay...

I bought a box of structures from an estate and that was in it. I pretty much planted it and made the scenery match up to it.

Well that went well… no, actually it really did. We had a one day show yesterday and it was the debut of my 4 new corner modules, and also of my command station setup at a show. Everything went perfectly. The guys in the club usually use a PowerCab for the layout and their phones, but this time is was Digitrax with Wireless and also LNWI and that gave everyone options. I was also able to run a DC train which turned out to be a huge hit with the kids. I brought my Hello Kitty Shinkansen. The boys liked it because it was fast, the girls liked it because Hello Kitty and pink. I have been informed that this train needs to come to every show now! My dirt grade crossing also worked flawlessly and not a single train had an issue with it. That to me made my day. Sorry I didn’t get pictures, I was too distracted by people and kids.

Does it really matter what gets newcomers interested in model trains?

There are so many avenues by which to pursue this hobby: the track, the trains, the scenery, the controls/signals, etc.

It sounds like you made some new fans of model trains, and that's always good!

We had our first large show this last weekend and it was a success. We didn’t get a large supply of modules, actually all the modules were mine, but this was a new show to our schedule and not many members were really ready for it. Hopefully next year we will have more than just a small T-trak to display. Trains ran flawlessly all day and we were even able to run the DC trains with use of the station modules. I was nice being able to park 4 DC trains at the station and run a DCC train, then easily switch back. Also being able to simply park one and pull out another was a big hit with the visitors.

As some of you may remember I was having issues with the setup of the station modules and the DS64 having a mind of its own. Well I finally got to test the full setup in a layout environment. It wasn’t perfect, I have some crossed wires somewhere but I have for the most part isolated that issue, and unplugging a jumper fixed the problem. The problem was when track 1 was powered so was track 4 and tracks 2 and 3 also did the same. I’m guessing I got the plug assembled a bit wonky, no biggie. Once I unplugged the jumper cable the problem went away. Best news was there wasn’t a single switch that threw itself all day. Now I need to set up routes so when I click the #1 button, everything lines up for track one and so on.

Setting up in the former Macy’s store in the Three Rivers Mall in Kelso WA.

A favorite for the kids, Thomas and Percy that they can control. I know I need to decorate them as the Isle of Sodor.

Just a quick tour of the layout. Many of these modules you have all seen before.

This was the very first time I was able to run my Kato Evangelion train, and it was a hit. Most people didn’t know what Evangelion was but they liked the purple train. And of course there is the Hello Kitty Shinkansen. I know you would never see these both on the rails at the same time… well because they are actually physically the same train set, but it’s my railroad and my rules! Due to the ability of our layout to easily run DC, I think I’m gonna keep these as DC only trains.

That’s all for now. We got another small show this weekend.

The modules look good, Massey. You have enough to make a really nice layout.

Were other members there to help set up and run the layout?

The Isle of Sodor will be a cool layout when you get it sceniced. Kids will love it.

Looks like you have enough to fill a small semi-trailer! How do you transport all of these modules?
