Craig, our local club setups have exceeded the capabilities of even the Super Chief. We run lots of multiple unit lashups, with sound...for our smaller setups we use a Digitrax DCS240 as command station and booster, with two power managers/short circuit protection...this protects about 25' of red and yellow trackage on wither side of the outputs. For the KC layout, we used a DCS240 as a command station only, 9 separate power stations, consisting of a booster-loconet repeater-PM42...each power station managed two 25' legs/branches, providing short circuit protection for every 50' of track. We rely on 12-14 ga bus wire, around the entire layout, to operate, with almost zero voltage drop (the Powerpole connections on the bus also contribute to almost no voltage drop) Kato 3-way taps, every 3 ft along each bus, allow convenient module plug-in access. ~Bruce
Great coverage of the Layout from Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine! http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/34274
