Pics of stored BNSF units, Northtown Yard, Minneapolis, MN. A sea of green... pity about the other colours http://www.homestead.com/marshome/ ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree! [This message has been edited by Gats (edited 17 May 2000).]
WOW! I could certainly use up some film if I could get amongst them!! Very sad sight, though, and surprised to see some H1 units there. Are they just stored, not retired? ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com/index britishsteamgallery.homestead.com/index.html
From what was posted in the email list, they are stored servicable or LUGO - Laid Up Good Order. quote from Craig Douglas, BNSF Editor, CTC Board; The units at Northtown (and other locations around the system) are in LUGO (Laid Up Good Order) storage, which is essentially excess power that the railroad does not need at this time. Locomotives will be placed into and out of LUGO storage as traffic levels dictate, or as other units depart the BNSF roster due to sale, lease expiration, etc. Batteries have been removed and stored. What we need is a huge traffic upturn, to get all those units back on the road!! ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
Well, Al, get rid of the yucky orange/green stuff, and we can get some of the beautiful green/black running agian... and maybe some of the yellow/blue for old times sake... hehe Seriously, the link above has been updated again and has a listing of the loco numbers... all 138 of them! Cheers, Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree!
More on the many SD series locos LUGO at Northtown, Minneapolis - they are on the move! Noted BNSF M-NTWBRC1-26 departing Northtown Yard this evening, with most of the "mass" concentrated in the nine live SD40-2s trailing the road power, BN 7020 and BNSF 3180. The eight BN green and one heritage I Dash-2s were all in idle, surprising in these days of high fuel prices. In view of the "powered up" status, we can conclude that the units were being delivered to an eastern connection in operable status at Clearing Yard in Chicago. Karl Rasmussen Coon Rapids, MN Karl and list, These units are moving to Chicago for BNSF service. They are part of a 130 unit group of LUGO'ed locomotives that are being reactivated. The models included in this group include SD40s, SD40-2s, SD45-2s and SD75Ms. Craig Douglas BNSF Editor CTC Board Magazine FWIW Gary.
