I suppose it would be interesting to see some pictures of the paint schemes of locomotives or other stuff of the so called "free-lancers", "serious people" would have been much better.... Here I have posted the design of the Rappannahock Terminal. Pictures of a real model will be posted in the coming weeks. I think I will change the black in grey for the next model. Yes and No. I started with Herald-King (now out of production) for the stripes and orange numbers. They came from a Rio Grande set and the ECI logos come from FEC sets that I modify. I use the same logo and reporting marks on my boxcars as well. I have 6 waiting to be lettered and I just found the H-K decal sets that I need. Since then, I have located someone to custom make them for me. That way I don't have to sit around with an Xacto(tm) knife and cut my own. Here are 3 images of my "freelanced" home road. I drove tankers for Chevron back when they came out with the black/white/beige color scheme and thought it would look appropriate for a Southwest based railroad. These are the only items I ever completed the scheme on. Oh well, tomorrow (?) Nothing real special, but I like it. Thanks for looking. Carl Ooopps, forgot this one.............
I started this layout over 30 years ago as a freelance railroad. I model the area where I live in the transition era. I grew up with relatives working on both the Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Road and was lucky enough to have taken numerous trips in the cabs of locomotives when I was a kid. I guess that's where my interest in model railroading as kicked off. I had though about modeling either the NP or MILW but with the space I had available, I really couldn't have done justice to even a part of a subdivision of either railroad. That's when the decision to freelance came about. My railroad is a short line / branch line that connect to the Northern Pacific at Logan, MT and runs south to Gallatin Gateway, MT where it connect to the Milwaukee Road and then runs south to West Yellowstone, MT where it also connects to the Union Pacific. All of the towns on the railroad are real towns but tweaked a bit to what could have been. This is the yard and engine facility at Logan, MT. This is the yard and engine facility at Gallatin Gateway. I tried to come up with a family look for the locomotives. I first started custom painting and detailing a couple of old Athearn geeps and then Atlas brought out their line of Alco locomotives with their Kato drive. I picked up over a dozen of the Alcos and they became the staples of my locomotive fleet.

Here is my standard Chicopee Road paint scheme, heavily influenced by NKP and D&TS, with a hint of Milwaukee Road and a dash of Chessie System. I actually changed the full name of the railroad to "Chesapeake, Huntington, Louisville & Chicago" but it is still Chicopee Road....I'll get the long hood lettering changed eventually.
