Hi Guys! Recently, a fellow Club member purchased a Con-Cor U50 on E-Bay, and claimed it was powered with a Kato drive. I haven't pulled the body shell yet, but it got me to thinking.

I have a Con-Cor turbine (which uses the same frame). It is now in pieces on the work bench, because the prime mover died. With the above inspiration, I pulled a dead Kato motor out of an old SD40, and tried a test fit. It is amazingly close in all dimensions. I now have a new Kato motor, but before I attempt to install it, I wanted to see if anybody else has succuessfully re-powered a Con-Cor turbine before, how did you do it, and what are the pitfalls...

    Thank You,

Not knowing the full history of all the concor turbine and U50 releases. I do know that some of those were produced with Kato motors from the factory.

I've never repowered one of those, but do know you'll have to mount the motor in there pretty solid because of the drive shaft design.
