I want to have more than one Spectrum 2-8-0 on my layout and the B&O and WM engines just come in one road number. Anyone have any suggestions about removing those numbers without damaging the paint? Thanks - Nevin

    Guys I have to ask--
your spectrum 2-8-0's , do they run good at all? The ones I have had are crap and I wouldnt waste my time customizing one unless I just HAD to have one on my layout. and I know how that is.
I have put this out on the board before and gotten very mixed reaction. A few of the responses insist the spectrums are great and a few do not like them any more than me. Some insist they are wonderful and that I am obviously stupid, so I just don't get it.
I just took one of mine apart to check it out
and upon completion it actually runs better.
    Just a little though.
I had to see for sure what the deal is so yesterday I bought another 2-8-0 spectrum, I do like the way they look, and yes it sucks just like the other 4 I have had. 3 2-8-0's and a 4-8-2 and all but one of the 2-8-0's
went back to the store. This one will return on Monday. and Bachman will never get another
    $$$$ from me.
    Thanx, just had to vent!!!

I have two and both run very well. We have several at the club with DCC installed and they run well but with a slight buzz. I suspect the problem is with Bachmann's quality control- they let some escape for sale that should have been sent back for repairs or to be melted down. - Nevin

The Bachmann Dash8-Cs & CWs I have all ran like crap(one would shut down the layout if I reversed it). After some fiddling around with them I discovered how to make good runners out of them.(at least in my case) I removed the lightboard from the one mentioned above and ended up with a diesel that runs as good as any KATO I own.???????
Funny thing is I've switched to N scale now and nothing helps those Dash 8s [IMG]

Well you have seen my opinions before, I havent ever had any problems with any Spectrim locos. I would consider them to be among the best. I really cant imagine that you have had that much trouble, seems like you got every loco ever made on a monday [IMG] . Where have you ben buying them? Most shops will run them before you buy it to weed out any problem locos. If you really want one I have one that runs well, and would consider trading for a Lifelike 0-8-0 .....Mike [IMG]

I'm not into the steam scene, but just due to the Bachmann name being involved i personally would be cautious about their stuff... Of course i'm asking for trouble because i've never seen em run and there newer stuff would theoretically be better [IMG]

I got just 2 spectrum locos 1 C40-8W and one GP30, the -8 ran fine, but the GP30 was a pile of...... anyway it took a lot of work to make that run reasonable, then i rebuilt it into a GP39E.. but i wont be rushing out to buy any other backmann locos for a while[/b]</font>

    Mike,

I just don't get it. These 2-8-0's have come
from two different stores. I am going to keep
my southern green one and keep fiddling w/ it. I got it a little better each time and think it looks very nice.
Yes I would love to see one of yours or anyones that runs well. I may get my confidence back in Bachman if I saw it with my own eyes. But no,no,no you will never convince me that it would be a trade for the
LL 0-8-0. Thanx for the replies and I promise this issue is through for me.

Actually, after two trips to Bachmannland, my 2-8-0 performs very well!! I am just about to install a Soundtraxx DSD 150 and make it my primary loco. I'll freely admit that it ran like crap when I got it (I discovered a bearing not in it's slot, which helped, but not enough). But for the price of two mailings, I got a very good performer and it pulls very well too. It appears that their quality control is not what it should be -- but the product is a good one.

The 4 we got are amongst the finest operating locos ever. Slow starting, crawl great, etc... Overwhelming plus from folks at rec.models.railroad that have them.

Have a dog? Send it back as Bachmann has produced basic garbage in the past but, the CService has been pretty good over the years.

Getting back to the original topic, the pencil eraser works some of the time. I've got a couple of Proto 2000 0-8-0's and the eraser doesn't work, any ideas????
