NS has a wye where the lead from BMW's massive automobile assembly plant in Greer, SC meets the main. Someone at NS with an appreciation for a good customer named the three interlockings marked by stars Bavarian, Motor and Works. As if that wasn't enough, a recent siding extension nearby created a new control point they named RPM.
Back in steam days - Wye's were in place at many locations to facilitate the turning of steam engines being used in Local Freight or Helper Service. The above map from the 1944 B&O Akron Divison TT indicates the facilities available at each location by the letters suffixed to the important locations.
