I was wondering how satisfied you guys that have the Atlas DCC system are. I ordered one last Wednesday and it should be here by Thursday. Couple questions about it: 1) Is it easy to use (program / run trains) 2) Is it easy to hook up (decoders and system) 3) Any tips would be very helpful Thank you Matt
I don't have the Atlas system, but I don't see why you won't be happy with it. It is a competent system, it probably has its own unique clitch, but what to heck. But it will probably do everything you want it to do, and is becoming popular. Also if you expand, Atlas is really Lenz so you have an expandable system. Congrats on your purchase, you will love DCC, except when you want to kill it.... lol.. (kind of like computers).
I've used my brothers unit a fair amount and find that for an entry level system it easy to use, but supports only basic features. His is an older unit, which doesn't have the latest (S/W) upgrade so it's not possible for me to comment on units having the new features. From what I've read about the upgraded units, I'm sure you'll be happier with the expanded programming capabilities and revamped consisting function. These are two areas where I find the unit lacking. If your running N Scale, you'll want to consider Atlas' posting at http://www.atlasrr.com/dcc/voltage.gif The information there will keep those decoders running just a little cooler and perhaps prevent melted shell's as happened with two of my brothers SD-35's.
