IMPORTANT! A bug was reported and confirmed in the last version of SCARM that may prevent starting of the program on some computers. The patched version of the program was released today. Please upgrade to SCARM 0.9.36, which can be downloaded from www.scarm.info to fix the issue. See more about this bug-fix update in the following blog post: SCARM v. 0.9.36 Released. I am sorry if the bugs caused any problems and inconvenience in your work with SCARM. If you see another problems, please report them here or in SCARM Blog and I will try to fix them ASAP. Mixy
Here are the SCARM model railroading blog posts for February. For those, who already got the MTS Power Edition - there is an easy way to stack all virtual vehicles in the sim in a single column. See how here: Showing Vehicles From All Libraries Together Mixy
And here are listed the model train articles for March in the SCARM blog. Check also the first sample video session from the Model Trains Simulator, presenting a short train moving between two terminus stations on a N-scale layout. Finally, one more video about a new feature in the MTS PE, that I am working on - it's a Driver's Camera Viewing mode and should be ready for the next release of SCARM. Mixy
The new SCARM v. 0.9.37 is ready and published, coming with some new options, many small bugfixes, improved stability and one new cool feature for the MTS Power Edition. Read more details here: SCARM Model Railroad Layout Design software 0.9.37 Released Hope you will like it Mixy
Here are the SCARM model train blog posts for April. If your older version of SCARM is not yet updated or does not start correctly, update to the latest version - see the article about v. 0.9.37. Mixy
Here is the only SCARM blog post for May: International Danube Modular Layout Meeting - Russe 2017 The event hosted layouts in HO, TT and N scales and was carried out by more than 40 participants from several countries. Here is the layout scheme: I also attended and even drove several trains See the pictures that I shot in the blog post's gallery. Last but not least, I should mention that one of the train stations and several other single modules are entirely designed in SCARM Mixy
This is probably the wrong place to post this SCARM question, but can someone help me to understand how to create an L-shaped Baseboard to exact dimensions? I understand how to draw the table dimensions freehand, but it's difficult to set each table edge to exact length. I'm attempting to fit the N layout into an existing space and accuracy is important. Plus, I tend to over-engineer everything I touch. Thank you. Here's what I'm trying to create in SCARM:
Don't worry, this is the most correct place to post questions about SCARM In order to create the baseboard with exact dimensions, you need to use the Toolbox - it can be enabled in the Tools menu. There are two functions in the Toolbox that can be of help - "Baseboard (abs. coordinates)" and "Baseboard (displacements)". As you have the dimensions already, you can enter them in the function for the displacements (offsets). Here is one sample L-shaped baseboard and the sequence of entering the displacements for each corner in it: Note that if your offset is to the right or bottom, the number is positive, but if you want to make an offset to the top or left, the number must be negative. More about how to work with the Toolbox can be found here: How to use the Toolbox in SCARM Mixy
Thank you Mixy! That's exactly what I was seeking, but I just couldn't figure out the Displacement function. Again, thanks.
I noticed something with SCARM that puzzles me. When use the Length of Selected Section feature on a No. 4 Turnout, a length of 251.46mm is shown, when the actual length is 126mm. An illustration is below. A similar result is found with No. 6 Turnouts, with the Selected Length reporting 374.19 when the actual length is 186mm. Is a fix needed or am I somehow misunderstanding the application? This feature is important to me, as I use it for calculating siding lengths and general gradients. Thank you.
I'm sorry for asking another SCARM question, this one involving gradients. I know how to have SCARM automatically calculate track elevations as seen at the top, but when I insert a turnout in the straight tracks (and highlighting all sections) SCARM ends the elevation at zero at the turnout as seen at the bottom. How would I ask SCARM to calculate the track elevations for all of the track pieces, including turnouts? Again, thank you.
1. This is explained here: Correct Understanding of Track Lenghts Shown by SCARM. 2. Complex tracks (like turnouts and crossings) cannot be set on a gradient in SCARM, because it cannot represent twisting in the 3D viewer that may occur in the different paths. Mixy
You are welcome Here is the only blog post for June: Improvements in SCARM Website Don't miss also that SCARM Approaches v.1.0 Milestone Mixy
The thing I find pleasing about SCARM is that I was able to jump in and almost immediately produce simple track plans. Then, as my plans became a bit more complex, I explored a number of additional features. I found success with most and received quick answers to functions I couldn't figure out. The depth of the program is impressive. Thanks for your hard work and timely support Mixy!
